NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Ayden Duncanson and Ja’Keith Hamilton each scored touchdowns as East Carolina beat Old Dominion 20-17 on Saturday.
The Pirates (1-2) picked up their first win of the season after scoring 13 unanswered points to rally back, and have never lost to Old Dominion (1-2) in six meetings.
ECU struck first with a 25-yard strike on a double-pass. Emory Williams tossed to wide receiver Jason Dickinson, who connected with Hamilton for a 25-yard score.
After allowing two straight scoring drives to ODU and a fumble recovery touchdown in between, the Pirates defense held the Monarchs scoreless the rest of the way.
Duncanson’s 67-yard pick-six on the first drive of the second half tied the game at 17, and Noah Perez hit a 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that gave ECU the lead for good.
TJ Engleman Jr. paced the Pirates with 99 rushing yards on 16 carries, including a 40-yarder in the fourth quarter.
Devin Roche led the Monarchs with 102 rushing yards, and Quinn Henicle added 73 yards and a score.
