MOON ALERT: There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The moon is in Capricorn.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Be aware that people notice you more than usual. In fact, some people will even know personal details about your private life. Consider this in case you have to do some damage control. This is a relaxed day and a chatty one.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Do something different. Shake things up a little. (But don’t be too ambitious.) Talk to people you encounter — no matter how casually or briefly. Try to learn something new, because this will please you.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

This is the perfect day to relax at home. Don’t try to do anything too demanding as it’s OK to kick back and relax. Enjoy mental games, puzzles and mysteries to occupy your time. If you’re working, co-workers will be supportive.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

You have to go more than halfway when dealing with others because the moon is opposite your sign. This happens for two-and-a-half days every month. However, two weeks from now people will have to go more than halfway when dealing with you. Sweet!

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Basically, this is a laid-back day. However, you will find it to be personally rewarding if you can help someone or be of service to a family member — something like that. You’re bighearted and generous by nature, which means helping others makes you feel good.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a fortunate day for you. It’s OK to relax and take it easy. However, you will enjoy shmoozing with others as well as checking out sporting events and playful activities with kids. The arts, movies and the theatre will also appeal. Basically, you want to have a good time!

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Home and family might be your focus, and you will welcome a chance to relax at home among familiar surroundings and enjoy yourself. With Mercury in your sign, an interesting conversation with someone will entertain you.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You have a strong desire to express yourself or share your ideas, which is why you need to find someone who is willing to listen to you. You won’t be satisfied with superficial chit-chat about the weather. You want to discuss something meaningful.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Financial matters might be on your mind. You might also be considering making a purchase? Or perhaps, on a more subtle level, you’re thinking about your values and what it is that makes you happy? What do you want to do with the rest of your life?

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

The moon is in your sign, which gives you a slight advantage over all the other signs. It means you can ask the universe for a favour. So, if there is something you want, make an effort to get it or ask someone for help. You might be surprised at the response.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Take it easy. Nevertheless, someone might ask for your advice about how to make something look better or more attractive. If you can help, you will. If not, don’t worry about it. Travel plans or a chance to learn something new will interest you.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

This is the classic day for a heart-to-heart discussion with a friend, probably a female. You might share your hopes and dreams. This could be an opportunity to get feedback from someone about what you want to do?

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor Jon Bernthal (1976) shares your birthday. You value your independence. You welcome the admiration and affection of others; and you like to take control of a situation. Socialize and enjoy life this year! Nurture the happiness and beauty you have within. Let your guard down. Old friends might reappear to rekindle relationships.

Poor choice

Manitoba’s move to end seasonal time changes appears to be an edict by extrapolation.

A voluntary online questionnaire produced 72,000 self‑selected responses, of which 58 per cent (41,760 people) preferred permanent daylight time. This is not a scientific poll, yet it is being used to set time policy for 1.4 million Manitobans — without legislative debate, committee review, or a vote in the Assembly.

If a one‑hour shift twice a year is considered “harmful,” then by the same logic we should question every activity involving time‑zone changes.

Winnipeg Wine FestivalRBC Convention Centre, 375 York Ave.Friday, 7-10 p.m. and Saturday, 1-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.Tickets from $88 hereBig, hearty red wines take centre stage at the RBC Convention Centre this weekend, as the Winnipeg Wine Festival returns with the theme “Life is a Cabernet.”

Three sessions over two days will see hundreds of wines being popped and poured for thousands of thirsty Winnipeggers at the public tastings, with around 60 Cabernet Sauvignons available to be sampled alongside other reds as well as bubblies, rosés, white wines and more.

As well as tried-and-true favourites, there will be plenty of products (Cabernet Sauvignon and otherwise) that are new to the province and/or exclusive to the festival from Italy, Chile, Australia, Germany, France and beyond, with a handful of export managers and winemakers on hand to talk about the wines and answer questions about featured products.

Beyond wine, the fest will feature a Drink Sense non-alcoholic booth, a bistro, a silent disco, a Malibu Pink booth and other fun surprises. And for those who discover a new favourite or two, the festival again features an on-site Liquor Mart. (Of note: unlike last year’s Winnipeg Wine Festival, the city’s eight private wine stores are not participating.)

Health Canada suspends plasma collection at Grifols Taylor Avenue clinic

Chris Kitching 6 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 5:47 PM CDT

Health Canada has suspended all plasma collection at Grifols’ Taylor Avenue facility while the private company continues to face scrutiny after two people died following donations at its Winnipeg clinics.

The suspension began Wednesday, although Grifols paused plasma collection in Canada on Aug. 14, two days after the federal department gave the Taylor Avenue site a non-compliant rating.

“Health Canada issued the suspension because Grifols had not effectively implemented some corrective and preventive actions and, overall, it failed to demonstrate that the Taylor Avenue site has implemented an effective quality management system,” the department said in a statement.

The penalty was first proposed Aug. 13. The site’s operating licence was partially suspended, Grifols said in a statement.
