WINNIPEG — A judge has reserved a decision on a request by the family of Brian Sinclair to get more money to hire a lawyer to represent them at an inquest looking at his death.
Provincial court judge Ray Wyant said he hopes that this matter does not delay the inquest, which is scheduled to begin in January.
The family of Sinclair has been told by the government that they can hire legal counsel at the legal aid rate of $80 per hour to a maximum of $40,000 for the 53 days of the inquest.
As well the government has told the family that if the inquest goes longer that they can continue paying a lawyer at the rate of $800 per day.
Lawyers for the family says that that puts them at a disadvantage because lawyers for the WRHA will get at least $210 dollars per hour.
Earlier this year a judge granted the Sinclair family the standing at the inquest.
