WINNIPEG — Harvey Secter has been named University of Manitoba’s 13th chancellor, effective Jan. 1.
Secter succeeds Bill Norrie, who is stepping down six months before the end of his scheduled tenure.
A recently-retired dean of law, businessman and philanthropist, Secter was named this afternoon by U of M’s board of governors.
The chancellor, as titular head of the university, confers all degrees and diplomas, and plays a leading role in advancing the university.
