Hey there, time traveller!

WINNIPEG – Scott Arniel is used to delivering bad news on the injury front this year, and it continued this morning when the Manitoba Moose head coach announced that defenceman Michael Funk is out for the rest of the season.
Funk hasn’t played since suffering his fourth concussion in 14 months in early November in Texas.
“This had a lot do with the doctor’s recommendation that he not go anywhere near the ice the rest of the season,” said Arniel after this morning’s practice at MTS Centre.

The defenceman had one goal and six assists in 19 games this season, his first with the Moose.
“He’s a non-veteran, very experienced, and a real capable – as you saw this year – defenceman that we were really hoping would be part of our big four,” said Arniel.
“He’s a big piece that’s going to be missing from us. But saying that, we’re more concerned about his well-being other than just hockey.”
Defenceman Nolan Baumgartner sympathizes with the way Funk’s season was cut short.
“You always hear about guys who have to retire because of injury, and they don’t like that – they want to go out their own way,” said Baumgartner. “I’m sure it’s a disappointing day for him.
“But having said that, it’s all about his health. We just play a game. He’s going to have a full life ahead of him, and I don’t think anyone should risk going out there if you got something wrong with your head. You’re going to need that” Baugmartner added.
But Baumgartner is hoping Funk will still have a presence with the team the rest of the season.
“It’s going to probably be hard to deal with for a while, but we’re all here, and hopefully he’ll stick around to be with the guys,” he said. “He’s a great guy and we’d love to have him around here.”
Funk wasn’t available for comment today, but he will speak to the media tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Moose also announced today that they have recalled Taylor Ellington from the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL. The defenceman, who has 11 points in 27 games with Victoria, played two games for the Moose after his first recall this season on Nov. 25.
