This is a "stay-the-course" budget, and may disappoint those who are angered by the closing down of Parliament last December in order to "re-calibrate" the economy. The federal government will continue with deficit spending to address our national economic woes, but hopes to switch gears to eliminate the deficit by 2015 through cuts to foreign aid, defence, and government operations.
They also assume that an economic rebound is just around the corner. We doubt that this modest budget will cause political ripples here. Probe Research’s data show Manitobans are generally content with how our local economy is faring.
