Comfort begins at the end. The end of Mike and Sara’s marriage. With divorce papers to be signed on the table and Sara in the shower after some (what she describes as) comfort sex, this marriage is over, no matter what Mike hopes.

Written by Brandon-based playwright Gordon Portman, this touching, comic tale, starring Troy Anthony Young and Kirsten Kilburn, follows a circuitous path in the relationship of Mike and Sara, from end to beginning to beginning of the end.

Grounded by the compelling chemistry and talents of Young and Kilburn, Comfort is an appealing sneak peek into what made this relationship tick. Although the journey takes a side-step into the maudlin, the two leads manage to avoid the hazards of soap opera-ish melodrama.

An ill-advised final scene ruins what feels like a natural ending to the work, but, ultimately, Comfort compels.
