On Tuesday, two Winnipeg restaurants were named to the Canada’s Best 100 Restaurants list: Osborne Village’s Segovia and the Exchange District’s Deer + Almond.

The annual list, determined by a national panel of 97 judges, including chefs, restaurateurs, journalists, gourmets and industry leaders, is considered the Michelin Guide of Canada.

In listing it at No. 46, the judges singled out the contemporary takes on tapas at Segovia.

Deer + Almond came in at No. 75.

Broken ‘business’ needs expert consultation

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: My husband has always said “marriage becomes a business deal” after the romance wears off and the children demand their mother’s full attention.

He was only justifying his own behaviour. He always had women on the side and didn’t try hard to hide it. He’s been punishing me for no longer being hot for him after the first time I caught him. I didn’t want to tear apart our young family, so I responded to my husband with nothing but maintenance sex after that.

My husband has only recently found out I had my own boyfriend. Now he’s furious and he wants to pull the plug on the family.

Our children overheard the latest fights because he’s lost control and has become a yeller. The kids have begged us not to break up our family. It’s heartbreaking.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

The moon in your sign is lined up with stern Saturn, which can make you feel isolated from others. Domestic problems might surface. Possibly, you might feel cut off from your emotions. You might even feel a tinge of guilt. This is fleeting.

Transcona teen — and Nigerian royalty — earns high school diploma as queen mother beams with pride

Manitoba’s public school system is receiving high praise from a Nigerian king who sent his only son to Grade 12 in Transcona.

Prince Adetola Samuel Owoade — known as “Sam,” to friends and family — kept his royal title under wraps throughout his tenure at Transcona Collegiate.

It wasn’t until an end-of-year ceremony that many of Sam’s peers and their families learned nobility was among the Class of 2026.

His Royal Majesty, Abimbola Owoade I, was unable to vacate his throne in southwestern Nigeria for the occasion, but he made his fatherly pride known.

Southwestern Manitoba hammered by hail, thousands without power amid more wild weather

Scott Billeck 5 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 5:12 PM CDT

It looked more like the middle of February than early July in parts of southwestern Manitoba, with streets, rooftops and yards blanketed in white on Sunday.

The white covering Killarney wasn’t snow, however — it was hail, left behind by a powerful storm that pummelled the community located about 250 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.

“It looks like a war zone at the moment,” Killarney resident Céline Dagg said on Monday.

Residents reported the hailstorm began around 5:45 p.m. and lasted about 10-15 minutes, leaving widespread damage in its wake.
