Winnipeg’s first witchy night market makes a return this autumn and it’s bigger and better than ever.

A Thinning of Veil: Samhain Witches Night Market kicks off tonight from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and continues on Sunday from 2 p.m to 7 p.m.

Founded by Kari Giavedoni of Mommabat Witchery, the market featuring 50 alternative vendors will set up shop at the R.A. Steen Community Club, 980 Palmerston Ave.

“The first market was hosted on our riverside property on Wolseley Avenue this summer with 27 vendors. We had over 500 guests visit,” says Giavedoni.

“There is a really big demand for witchy bazaars in different cities across Canada and the U.S. Winnipeg has metaphysical markets, but not a specific witches market. I thought it was a great idea so I went for it here.”

Giavedoni offers tarot readings, birth-chart readings and astrology year-ahead readings as part of Mommabat Witchery’s services.

Vendors over the weekend include Aine’s Oddities, Kozmic Art, Dying to Help Doula, Aly Apocalypse, Misfits Incantra, Covenstead Candles, Brook Drabot Glass and Machine Gal Milliner.

“We are also accepting goods and funds as part of our donation drive for North Point Douglas Women’s Centre and Ma Mawi. Items such as feminine hygiene products, tuques, mitts, socks, winter clothing, canned goods and bottled drinks are welcome.

“Everyone who brings a donation will get a raffle ticket with two different prizes: one prize is from market vendors and the other is from Prairie Sky Books,” Giavedoni continues.

She is currently planning a Winter Solstice Night Market for December and an anti-Valentine’s Day market for February.

A 19-year-old is dead after a collision Saturday in southeastern Manitoba involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.

RCMP officers from the St-Pierre-Jolys detachment received a call at 8 p.m. about a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of highways 23 and 200, located roughly 35 kilometres north of Emerson, a Monday news release said.

A vehicle with five people inside was travelling north on Provincial Road 200 when it hit a semi-truck travelling east on Provincial Trunk Highway 23, police said. The semi-truck jackknifed in the eastbound lane and tipped over into the ditch. The other vehicle landed facing west in a ditch on PTH 23.

A STARS air ambulance was dispatched, police said.

MPI cuts off public parking downtown to prioritize staff mandated to return to office

Some commuters who work in downtown Winnipeg are frustrated after finding out they’re losing access to monthly parking spots in lots owned by Manitoba Public Insurance.

The Crown corporation has acquired parking spaces, currently managed by Impark for its staff, and is adding desks and renovating some floors at its Cityplace headquarters to prepare for more employees to return to the office full time, sources told the Free Press.

MPI, which owns the Cityplace complex and parkades within the tower and at 266 Hargrave St., is eliminating daily parking and reducing the number of non-MPI monthly parkers to “prioritize” parking availability for employees who work at the headquarters, spokeswoman Kristy Rydz said.

The changes will come into effect Nov. 1 for the 266 Hargrave parkade and Dec. 1 for the Cityplace tower parkade. The lots will become card-access only.

Police probe Perimeter Highway collision

1 minute read Yesterday at 3:22 PM CDT

Traffic investigators are probing a collision between two eastbound semi-trucks on the south Perimeter Highway at Provincial Road 330 on Sunday morning.

The Winnipeg Police Service was called to the collision at about 7:30 a.m., where Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service personnel were already on the scene.

Traffic investigators met with the drivers and learned that one of the trucks was safely pulled over on the shoulder, waiting for mechanical assistance, when a second semi ran into the parked semi. The trailer of the parked vehicle was damaged and the driver was left with minor injuries.

The driver of the second semi remained at the scene.

This is not an endorsement (not my job) nor is it a prediction (predictions are for suckers) of what will happen Wednesday in Winnipeg’s mayoral race. It is, however, a call to arms for voters.

Pharmacist fined for dispensing incorrect dosage

Erik Pindera 4 minute read Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026

A Winnipeg pharmacist has been fined for misconduct after dispensing a mistakenly high dose of an anti-psychotic, harming her patient.

Rumina Ishani was fined $3,500 and ordered to pay $5,000 in costs by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba earlier this month, after pleading guilty to professional misconduct.

The college, in a written disciplinary decision, said the incident occurred on Aug. 12, 2025, at the Marion Street Shoppers Drug Mart where Ishani worked at the time.

She filled an aripiprazole prescription for a patient that day. The patient had first been given the anti-psychotic at that pharmacy in November 2023 at two milligrams a day for 30 days, and was again prescribed the drug in February 2025 at one mg/day, which was increased to two mg/day in March.
