Tom Morello is still raging against the machine.

On Feb. 2, the outspoken modern guitar legend of incendiary, era-defining rock band Rage Against the Machine will be in Winnipeg for a show at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

The unapologetically political guitarist and human rights defender will open the museum’s exhibition Beyond the Beat: Music of Resistance and Change, which showcases artists — past and present — who have used their talents to promote equality, justice and freedom.

The interactive exhibit invites visitors inside groundbreaking moments where music played a pivotal role in social transformation and political change.

“Tom Morello and Rage Against the Machine have been instrumental in advancing human rights understanding and action,” Matthew Cutler, vice-president of research and exhibitions at the CMHR, says in a news release. “Having Tom join us to open the exhibition is a tribute to the hundreds of artists whose revolutionary music is celebrated in Beyond the Beat.”

The event is offered in partnership with the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Tickets are $40 at humanrights.ca. Doors and exhibit open at 8 p.m. with the concert beginning at 9 p.m. at the Bonnie & John Buhler Hall. All tickets are general admission and seating is limited.
