MOON ALERT: There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions. The moon is in Libra.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

You will hold your own in discussions about inheritances, shared property, debt and mortgages, or in dealing with banks, because you know what you want to achieve. You know your limits and you know your strengths. You are on point.

Stranger Things star

Caleb McLaughlin is 22.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

If you meet with opposition from partners, spouses or close friends, you’ll be in control, and calm and steady regarding how to handle the situation. Patience will be the key — and you have patience, that’s for sure. You might make little headway, but you won’t lose ground.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

You can accomplish much because you’re willing to do difficult and exacting work. Not only that, you have the perseverance to keep on plugging away until it’s done. You’re not looking for a glamorous reward. You want results. Excellent. Motivation is the key to everything.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

This is the perfect day to practise something. You might practise a technique related to sports, or you might want to hone a particular skill related to the arts, perhaps music, drawing or acting. You have the patience to do it again and again until you improve.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Domestic disputes will be low-key because you don’t want to waste time on friction. Instead, you want to get better organized at home or with any DIY project, and you want to do it right. You want results for your efforts, which is why you will keep doing what you’re doing.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is an excellent day to learn or study something because you will give it your best. You’re willing to do routine, boring work that requires effort and endurance. This could apply to routine paperwork. It could also apply to a diligent effort to talk with and listen to others.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You’re willing to work hard to earn your money. In fact, you’re willing to tackle physical work that requires diligence and perseverance. You respect the value of your efforts and the value of what you earn, which is why you won’t be frivolous or indulgent.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Mars is in your sign lined up with stern Saturn, which helps you to work at a controlled, regular pace in whatever you do. Furthermore, whatever you do — you will do it carefully because you don’t want to do it again. You will be like the wise carpenter: “Measure twice, cut once.”

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This is a popular time for you, especially with young people. You also make a great impression on bosses and parents. One reason for this could be that you’re working diligently behind the scenes, very quietly, without fanfare, and this has earned someone’s respect.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You will be skilful with friends, especially groups. (You’ll be like an Italian traffic cop in Rome.) You will know what to do and when to do it and you will get results. You might also use this same energy to work with teams and professional organizations.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You make a great impression on others because you instinctively know what to do if you’re in the limelight. In other words, if anyone important notices you, you will work hard in a conscientious manner, very carefully and make no mistakes — and you’ll look fabulous.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Expect excellent results if you are studying, finishing a paper or manuscript, or dealing with publishers. Likewise, if you’re dealing with medical or legal matters, you will be careful, precise and leave no stone unturned.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor Caleb McLaughlin (2001) shares your birthday. You are determined, hard-working and serious about your ambitions. You have an excellent sense of humour. This year is your turn to socialize and have fun! Explore your creative talents. Nurture the happiness and beauty within yourself. Let your guard down and loosen up a bit.

Hockey teams scramble after two city arenas put on ice

Instead of ice, Barry Bonni walks onto a dull concrete surface at the Terry Sawchuk Memorial Arena on Thursday.

The arena, as well as the West Kildonan Memorial Arena, have had to close after failing inspections. Predictably, the city’s hockey community is in a tailspin because ice time is so precious.

“We’re now in panic mode,” said Bonni, president of the River East Royal Knights on Thursday. The Sawchuk arena is the team’s home rink.

Bonni, who is a living legend in Manitoba’s hockey community, said the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League club is scrambling to find ice time.

New twist in Hellebuyck saga, suspension ends Friday

Ken Wiebe 7 minute read Yesterday at 6:58 PM CDT

Connor Hellebuyck has played the reverse Uno card.

What we don’t know is if he has any intention of coming back to friendly Manitoba or if this is simply the latest attempt to put the Winnipeg Jets feet to the flames in an effort to move him to an American market.

Prior to puck drop on Saturday afternoon, when the Jets were getting set to host the Carolina Hurricanes, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported that the three-time Vezina Trophy winner and one-time Hart Trophy winner informed the organization he wanted to return on Oct. 2 and that his holdout has now shifted to a team-imposed suspension that can officially come to an end Friday.

The Jets were able to extend his suspension (for failing to report to training camp) because of a clause in the collective bargaining agreement, Article 15.13, subsection (c)(v), which reads: “If a player who has not received permission to be absent from training camp returns to the club, he shall be subject to a disciplinary suspension of reasonable length.”

Misused ensemble, underconfident script keep Street Fighter game adaptation from landing its blows clean

Darren Ridgley 5 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 8:37 AM CDT

Adaptations of fighting games come built-in with a major problem: how does one tell a coherent story about a game with no true protagonist?

Sadly, Street Fighter doesn’t know.

When it debuted in 1991, Street Fighter II (upon which most of this film is based) featured 12 “world warriors,” eight of them playable and with their own motives.

Managing such a cast requires a script capable of efficiently introducing them and then giving everyone decent reasons to interact — or homing in on a few and letting the rest be set dressing. Director Kitao Sakurai opts for the latter, focusing on Japanese warrior Ryu (Andrew Koji), American Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) and Interpol agent Chun Li (Callina Liang).

Inconsistency plagues Bombers as season hangs in balance

Taylor Allen 7 minute read Yesterday at 9:28 PM CDT

It’s reached a point where members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers can no longer hide their frustration.

They’ve been inconsistent all season, and it caught up with them again Friday at Commonwealth Stadium in a 35-27 loss to the Edmonton Elks.

The Bombers (8-9) could’ve clinched a playoff berth with a win. With both the Saskatchewan Roughriders (9-8) and Calgary Stampeders (9-9) winning Saturday, Winnipeg must now beat the B.C. Lions (10-7) in Vancouver on Friday to qualify for the post-season.

Meanwhile, the Elks improved to 13-4 and secured first place in the West Division for the first time since 2015.
