MOON ALERT: There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions. The moon is in Cancer.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Be tactful dealing with authority figures and parents. (This includes older family members.) This is a friendly day to socialize and deal with family matters, but confusion and unrealistic expectations might create disappointment. Tread carefully.

A View to a Kill star Grace Jones turns 78 today.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

You have a lot of energy and drive now, and in particular, you will be charming and convincing in talking to others. This is a bonus. Having said that, someone might criticize you or disagree with you. Admittedly, an element of confusion does exist. Be careful.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Be careful with financial matters. You’re eager to talk to others because Mercury is in your sign; however, the moon is in your money house at odds with Neptune and Saturn, which can create confusion and unrealistic expectations. Double check things.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

This is a tricky day because Venus is in your sign dancing beautifully with Mars, enhancing your ability to be charming and sociable. You’ll assert yourself and attract others to you. However, the moon is also in your sign at odds with authority figures. Things might not be as they seem.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Avoid controversial discussions about politics and religion because you might not have all the facts, or you might be misinformed. There is a lot of confusion out there. Nevertheless, behind-the-scenes-research will impress bosses and people in authority. (A work-related love affair could be a secret.)

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

In one way, relations with friends and groups are excellent. People are impressed with your energy and your straightforward approach. You might inspire someone to begin a project. However, be careful because someone or something could mislead you. (This might be on purpose or just by accident.) Double check everything.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

People notice you. (Some know personal details about your private life.) Nevertheless, you make a charming impression on everyone, especially if dealing with shared property, inheritances and responsibilities. Guard against negativity with a partner or close friend. Something is confusing.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Romance with someone different or unusual might blossom. Certainly, you’re keen to shake things up a bit because you want to break free of boring routine. Conversations related to work, your health or a pet might be subject to confusion. Be careful.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This is a passionate day for some couples who will enjoy each other’s company. In fact, for some, a work-related romance might be over the top. Nevertheless, confusion with your kids, as well as disappointing romantic misunderstandings could also be a bummer. It’s a tricky day.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

The moon is opposite your sign, which means you have to be co-operative with others. You might even have to compromise. Fortunately, Venus is also in your sign being energized by Mars, which promotes marvellous social opportunities. Good times with children will delight.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Relations with co-workers, as well as discussions about your health or perhaps a pet will be a lively, pleasant experience. Nevertheless, communications are confusing. Make no hasty assumptions. Some people will be critical. Fortunately, you have the energy to make improvements at home or where you live.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Two influences are at play: one will encourage fun socializing, great times with children and the eager enjoyment of sports. This same influence will also promote affectionate romance. The other influence will create misunderstandings and confusion. For example, unexpressed expectations could lead to disappointment. And so it goes.

Men accused in commercial break-in spree were wearing ankle bracelets

Two men in electric ankle bracelets who were being monitored by justice officials have been accused in a two-month spree of commercial break-ins, vehicle thefts and other property crimes.

City police have charged one of the suspects and are searching for the second.

About $140,000 worth of property, including trailers, lawn equipment, motorcycles and bicycles, was reported stolen in 13 incidents in Winnipeg and the Rural Municipality of Headingley between April 20 and June 28, the Winnipeg Police Service said.

Both suspects were wearing electronic monitoring bracelets during that time.

Working together in a trade war

Working together in a trade war

Norman Brandson 5 minute read 2:00 AM CDT

In the Second World War, a grand coalition, held together politically by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, succeeded in defeating Nazi Germany, after many bumps in the road. The rich history of this period reinforces the truism that coalitions — bringing together parties of divergent strength and interests to face together a common challenge — are fraught with many points of potential fracture.

Canada was not only a partner in the great international war effort but also fashioned a national coalition — presided over by Prime Minister Mackenzie King — necessitated by the federalist nature of our government. It worked after a fashion — conscription notwithstanding — and we emerged as a trusted friend and ally of our southern neighbour.

Oh, how times have changed. We are again faced with an existential threat; not to be compared to a world war, but serious enough given it’s posed not by a distant foe on another continent, but by the most powerful country in the world, with whom we share 8,800 kilometres of heretofore undefended border.

The unprovoked attack on Canada has been economic; tariffs, threats of tariffs, scrapped trade agreements and so forth — measures that have already had significant impact and promise to escalate. How does a country of 10 quasi-independent provinces with a national government constitutionally pre-eminent in international relations respond?

Carney touts ‘substantial progress’ after Trump delays tariffs for three days

Kelly Geraldine Malone, The Canadian Press 5 minute read Updated: 6:27 AM CDT

WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump announced late Tuesday a last-minute deal to delay new tariffs from slamming an array of Canadian products for three days.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said in response there’s still important work to do.

"Over the last number of weeks, Canada has engaged in intensive discussions with the United States to address outstanding trade issues and deliver greater certainty and real benefits for Canadian businesses, workers, farmers and families," Carney said in a statement.

He said "substantial progress" has been made and Canada is focused on "building a stronger, more independent and more competitive economy at home."
