MOON ALERT: Avoid shopping (except food and gas) and important decisions after 7:30 p.m. today. The moon is in Virgo.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Work-related travel might be on the menu for some of you. Others will enjoy working with groups. In particular, you might make some home improvements, or a gathering might take place at abode? (You’re keen on redecorating projects right now.)

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

A playful, fun-loving day! Accept invitations to party. Enjoy sporting events and fun activities with kids. The arts, movies and theatrical performances will appeal. Or you might want to just relax, feel good and take it easy. It’s your call.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

This is the perfect Sunday to relax at home. However, many of you might have family and friends over as well, because you feel generous and happy to be surrounded by loved ones. You might also come up with some moneymaking ideas about working from home.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

This is a feel-good day! You will enjoy being with congenial company, especially old friends. You might want to share gossip or talk about books and new ideas. You like the notion of people gathering together to benefit others or to benefit themselves because you understand the needs of others.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Money is on your mind — like how you might boost your income? Perhaps you can look for a better-paying job or you can see a way to make some money on the side? Admittedly, some of you will also contemplate a major purchase. Ka-ching!

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

The moon is in your sign dancing beautifully with Jupiter, which makes you concerned for the welfare of others. You will certainly help someone if they need it. You’ll also enjoy time spent with friends, especially people close to you. Some of you might speak up to a parent or boss about specific issues.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You might meet someone who can show you a great deal about yourself — but in a positive way. (Well, we all like to hear this, don’t we?) Meanwhile, others might seek your advice about how to make something look more attractive. You will know.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This is a great day for a group activity because working together makes you feel a co-operative effort benefits everyone. You might also put out some feelers about future travel plans because you would love to go away for pleasure. Fingers crossed!

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

People notice you, which is good because they’ll see you’re friendly, open-minded and genuinely concerned for the welfare of others. (You present an attractive image.) You might even raise funds via a third party or a group to help the less-privileged.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

It’s important to do something to expand your world because you’re hungry for adventure. It doesn’t have to be a huge thing — it has to be something that makes you feel you’re eager for life! Even a short trip or chance to explore your own neighbourhood will do it.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This is an excellent day to discuss how to divide or share something like an inheritance. People are in a generous frame of mind and certainly willing to help someone who is less-fortunate. Life favours you!

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Although you feel private lately, you’ll enjoy talking to people, especially partners, spouses and close friends. (Even members of the general public.) Most of all, you want to talk to people who know you well, with whom you have strong emotional ties.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Singer-songwriter Bob Dylan (1941) shares your birthday. You’re curious. You convey your ideas verbally and in writing in an inspirational way. Enjoy socializing and being with loved ones this year. Your creativity and zest for life are at a pinnacle. Nurture the happiness and beauty you have within you. Loosen up a bit.

No timeline to reopen city-owned fitness facility in North Kildonan after mould discovery

Joyanne Pursaga 4 minute read 5:29 PM CDT

A city-run fitness centre that suddenly closed for repairs last October lacks a set date to reopen, while an investigation on how best to fix it is underway.

Peguis Trail Health and Fitness Centre in North Kildonan was first expected to welcome visitors back within a few weeks when it shut down due to plumbing problems on Oct. 28.

But in February, the city’s website noted a much later reopening date of Oct. 2 after mould was discovered when crews attempted to upgrade the floors.

The city has since hired a consultant to assess the site’s condition, determine what repairs must be done and estimate how much the work would cost, including mould abatement.

Two-time cancer survivor trades blows with angry Lake Winnipeg in epic 12-hour fundraising swim

Zoe Pierce 3 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 2:46 PM CDT

After 12 hours of wind, waves and a painful shoulder, Jonathon Fenton has finished what he started, making it across Lake Winnipeg.

The 62-year-old two-time cancer survivor completed the roughly 26-kilometre swim Sunday, a year after shoulder problems forced him to stop 16 kilometres into his first attempt.

The swim was the second year of Fenton’s Jonny’s Big Swim fundraiser, which supports the Alberta Cancer Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and Health Sciences Centre Foundation.

He raised roughly $48,000 this year, bringing the two-year total to about $90,000.

Best to fess up about grandkid-sitting fatigue

Maureen Scurfield 5 minute read Yesterday at 2:00 AM CDT

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: We love our grandchildren, but now we’re sick of them. The two sets of parents — our adult children — have been parking their kids out here on the farm with us while they take back-to-back road trips to see their friends. We’ve had enough.

Grandma and I want them to come back and get the “brats” (just joking, they’re nice kids) so we can relax.

You have to be so careful with city kids around the farm who don’t know when they’re going to make a mistake and get hoofed by an animal or run over by a farm implement.

How do we tell our kids the party is over early, and they really need to come back before grandma and I give out?

Officer who shot dog dead after it bit him won’t face charges

Scott Billeck 3 minute read Yesterday at 1:06 PM CDT

A Manitoba First Nations police officer will not face charges for fatally shooting a dog last year, despite the Crown describing the officer’s conduct as “concerning.”

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba announced it would not recommend charges Monday, more than a year after the incident was reported to the police watchdog.

A Manitoba First Nations Police Service officer went to a home in Swan Lake First Nation to make an arrest in June 2025, the IIU said. No arrest was made as the person police were looking for was not there. As the officer was leaving, a dog chained outside bit him.

The officer later returned with a carbine rifle and shot and killed the dog.

First week at supervised drug consumption site issue-free: premier

Free Press staff 2 minute read 7:17 PM CDT

There were no issues to report after the first week of operations for Manitoba’s first supervised drug consumption site, Premier Wab Kinew said Tuesday.

The Winnipeg space, operating temporarily out of the fenced-off parking lot at 366 Henry Ave. while the adjacent building, which is to become the permanent site, undergoes renovations, opened Aug. 11.

Opening the long-awaited supervised consumption facility was a 2023 NDP election promise to keep people alive in the midst of a toxic street-drug crisis.

Kinew said the facility, which is being run by the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre for the province, had quietly served at least 125 clients as of earlier in the week.
