MOON ALERT: Avoid shopping (except food and gas) and important decisions after 6 p.m. The moon is in Taurus.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

You might find you identify with your possessions more than usual. In fact, this could be why you might be tempted to be a bit extravagant or go overboard buying something. This same sense of largesse might creep into your financial negotiations. Be aware of this.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

This is a positive day for you because the moon is in your sign dancing beautifully with lucky Jupiter. Keep in mind you love antiques and beautiful things, and your financial judgement might be a bit off because of a tendency to be extravagant.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

This is a playful time for you, which is why you will enjoy social outings, vacations, sporting events, the arts and fun activities with kids. Basically, you want to enjoy yourself. Your positive communication style might attract others because enthusiasm is contagious.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

Be careful about going overboard with financial matters. You might spend too much. You might give away too much. This is because there’s an aspect of “excess” influencing your financial decisions. Remember: true generosity is giving what is needed.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Be aware you’re high-viz, which means people notice you more than usual. (In fact, some people know personal details about your private life.) Others see you as confident but also as benevolent and compassionate. This is good.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You might be attracted more than usual to philosophical ideas, religion and lofty topics that make you think more about life, how things are and how things should be. You might examine other people’s attitudes to politics and religion. (You’re the most observant sign in the zodiac.)

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You are a people-oriented sign; and now you feel generous to friends and members of groups. In fact, if making a decision about how to share something or divide an inheritance, make sure to protect your own self-interest and not give away the farm.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This is an excellent day for you to shop for wardrobe goodies, but please be aware of the restrictions of the moon alert (see above). Whether shopping or in discussions with partners and close friends — guard against going overboard. Don’t make promises you can’t keep. If shopping, keep your receipts.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Work-related travel might happen for many of you. Whatever you do, whether it’s with your work, health or dealing with a pet — you’ll be inclined to think big and be extravagant. However, you will also want to be benevolent, which is a good thing. Always seek the highest good.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This a wonderful, fun-loving day for you. Enjoy socializing, partying and the arts, especially the theatre, movies and galleries. Sporting events and playful times with children will please you. Romance is blessed. This is also a good day for financial speculation if you’re aware of the moon alert.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Your interactions with others will be friendly and mutually rewarding because people are openhearted and generous. These pleasant interactions will take place with partners, close friends and relatives, as well as members of the general public.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Don’t bite off more than you can chew, especially in discussions with others and in making promises or commitments. That’s because you feel confident, enthusiastic and ready to grab the world by the tail.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor Ben Miles (1966) shares your birthday. You’re imaginative, sensitive and idealistic. You’re also perceptive, practical and ready to help. This year is about socializing and having fun because your creativity and desire for life are at a pinnacle. Let your guard down and loosen up a bit. Old friends might reappear to rekindle relationships.

Bombers coach happy to be back at work after backbreaking loss to Argos

Taylor Allen 6 minute read Yesterday at 8:16 PM CDT

It’s the first practice day after a backbreaking loss.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are in a challenging predicament with four games remaining — starting Saturday on the road against the Montreal Alouettes (11-3) — that leaves their playoff aspirations far from solidified.

And yet, head coach Mike O’Shea makes his way behind the podium, looks out at a room of reporters and is grinning ear to ear.

Why so happy?

Netminder no stranger to heavy workload as Jets new No. 1 readies for regular-season start

Ken Wiebe 8 minute read 2:42 PM CDT

Stuart Skinner is quick to admit that he wasn’t always wired this way.

As the Winnipeg Jets new starting goalie prepares for his fifth NHL season, Skinner conceded that the accountability aspect that is now synonymous with his character took some time to build up.

“As I grew up and got older, you go through certain things in life that either build character or make things worse for you. It depends on your choice and your decision,” Skinner said during a recent conversation with the Free Press. “I learned it through trial and error. I learned that, sometimes, it’s hard to get honest with yourself… For me, it’s definitely been a road for me to get to a place like this.

“It definitely is one of my pillars. Accountability is so important because that brings you into a spot of what you’re going to do next. It’s easy to let yourself off the hook. I’m more in the business of putting myself on the hook.”

In a smart-device world, some families keep phone jacked into the wall

Sheldon Birnie 8 minute read Yesterday at 4:20 PM CDT

When the phone rings in Kristin Shiach and Jordan Sobkowicz’s Riverview home, their three daughters race to see who can be the first to answer.

“It depends who is closest,” says 13-year-old Emily. “If I’m sitting in my room, I can get to it quickest.”

“That’s because it’s always in your room,” Anna, 10, replies. “You never put it back!”

“Usually, when the phone rings,” explains Sobkowicz, “someone yells really loudly —”
