ARIES (March 21-April 19)

It’s tricky because the moon is in your financial house, which might encourage you to negotiate financial matters and discuss shared property, banking details, insurance issues and inheritances. However, there’s a moon alert. Postpone these discussions.

Art Garunkel’s second fiddle Paul Simon turns 85 today.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

You have to go more than halfway when dealing with others because the moon is opposite your sign. (In two weeks, people will have to go more than halfway dealing with you, when the moon is in your sign.)

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

You might want to get better organized. (Co-workers will be helpful.) However, there’s a moon alert in effect most of this day, which could create shortages, delays and lower energy. Just cover the basics.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

Most of this day is a moon alert, which means you have fantastic opportunities to express your creative talents. Enjoy hobbies, arts and crafts. Enjoy socializing, especially sporting events and fun activities with kids.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

The sun is urging you to get out, shmooz, travel and learn something. Right now however, you might want to kick back and relax at home. Take it easy. It’s a poor day to shop or make important decisions. (Check moon alert above.)

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Indulge your eagerness to talk to others and share your ideas. People will enjoy talking to you because you know a lot — especially trivia. That’s what makes you so interesting. (Especially when you do dialects.)

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This is a strong time because the sun in your sign is recharging your batteries for the rest of year. Three planets are in your money house, making you think about buying beautiful things. Don’t do it now. Check the moon alert. Just make a list.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Three planets are in your sign, which is a powerhouse. Plus, Mars is high in your chart arousing your ambition. Basically, this is the kind of day where you can go after what you want. But not right now. There’s a moon alert in effect all day. (Just do your homework and fill your databank.)

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

The day is a mixed bag. In one way, you feel sociable because you’re popular right now. People want to talk to you, and your involvement in groups and organizations is stronger than usual. However, another part of you wants to be low-key and keep things quiet. That might be the wise choice.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You might have a heart-to-heart discussion with a female acquaintance or member of a group. (Keep in mind that you look good to everyone right now because the sun is casting you in a flattering spotlight.) Nevertheless, there’s a moon alert all day. Keep things light.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

People notice you. In fact, some people will know personal details about your private life. That’s just the way it is. Be aware of this in case you have to do some damage control. As there’s a moon alert all day, restrict spending to food and gas.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Avoid controversial subjects because they will amount to nothing due to the moon alert taking place all day. It will all be just be a lot of hot air. However, you can make progress at work or with any task you set for yourself. Get busy.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Singer, songwriter Paul Simon (1941) shares your birthday. You’re focused and direct. You’re also courageous and resourceful. This is a year of service (perhaps to family). Take care of yourself so you can be a resource for those who turn to you for guidance, comfort and courage. It might also be time for a personal makeover.

Main Street Project's clothes closet offers choice, dignity

Kelly-Anne Riess 4 minute read Yesterday at 6:22 PM CDT

Choosing what to wear is a simple part of everyday life, but for people with no home and no money, making that decision can be out of reach.

A new clothing store run by Winnipeg’s Main Street Project, a nonprofit that serves the homeless populations, aims to restore that choice while honouring the memory of a volunteer who helped others feel confident and valued.

Ash’s Closet, which opened on Thursday, allows people to browse through racks of free clothing that reflect their personal tastes.

“It gives people choice and dignity, and that’s a key part of what we do,” said executive director Jamil Mahmood. “When you’re homeless, that choice gets taken away from you. You don’t know where you’re going to eat, where you’re going to sleep, where you’re going to shower, and where you’re getting your clothes from.”

Jets salvage point in Chicago

Mike McIntyre 7 minute read Yesterday at 11:10 PM CDT

CHICAGO — Ever have one of those days where you should have just stayed in bed? That pretty much sums up how Thursday went for the Winnipeg Jets here in the Windy City.

It began with the bad news that top defenceman Josh Morrissey’s wrist issue is more serious than feared, and he likely won’t be back in the lineup any time soon. Then, veteran forward Vlad Namestnikov, coming off his best game of the young season, crashed into the boards at the end of morning skate, suffering an upper-body injury that sent him to the sidelines.

Off to the game itself, which began with Dylan DeMelo hitting the post on the first shift, a parade of Winnipeg penalties helping the home team build a healthy early lead and, last and certainly least, an eventual 4-3 overtime loss at United Center.

It actually could have been worse.

Banana Ball is coming to Winnipeg

1 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 9:34 PM CDT

Winnipeg is on the docket for the Banana Ball Championship League in 2027.

The “Greatest Show in Sports” is a fast-paced, fans-first, entertainment-focused version of professional baseball founded by Jesse and Emily Cole. The Coles started the league with the goal of making baseball fun.

Banana Ball will hit Manitoba’s capital for two games — Aug. 26, 2027, at Blue Cross Park and Aug. 28, 2027, at Princess Auto Stadium. Both games will see a clash between the Texas Tailgaters and the Party Animals.

Winnipeg is the second and only other stop scheduled in the league’s Canada Series. The Indianapolis Clowns face the Savannah Bananas Aug. 14 and 15, 2027 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Derek King typically has ice in his veins.

But the Manitoban admits there may be a few more butterflies than usual as he prepares for the ultimate home game — the 2026 Heritage Classic between the Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens.

“This is so exciting to be back,” King, the NHL’s vice-president of hockey operations and facilities operations, said Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s definitely going to be a fun event to be part of.”
