ARIES (March 21-April 19)

The Wire star Dominic West is 57 today.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Financial discussions can go well with the exception of agreeing to anything important during the moon alert (see above). You might be generous to a family member. Help and resources from a partner or a third-party could benefit home and family.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Enjoy shmoozing. Make a date with your main squeeze. Time spent with partners, spouses and close friends will be gratifying. You’ll welcome an opportunity to help others if you can. You might teach, share knowledge or encourage someone.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

Your efforts at work or with your health or a pet will be enormously rewarding. The rewards might even be monetary. In any case, you will feel that what you’re doing is meaningful, especially because it might benefit others as well as yourself.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

This is a playful day. Accept invitations to socialize with others. Enjoy good times with kids, as well as sporting events and a chance to appreciate the arts or express your own creative talents. Romance is also blessed. You’re grateful to be who you are.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Enjoy relaxing at home or spending time with family members, especially females. It’s easy to be generous to relatives, which is an excellent idea as you will get back from others exactly what you give. (Oh yes: what goes around, comes around.)

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You will likely attract happy and positive people to you, which is why you’ll enjoy talking to others. This is because you have a real sense of belonging and a sense of oneness with others. You might even feel by helping someone else, you’re helping yourself. (And you are.)

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You can reap financial benefits perhaps with moneymaking ideas or by exploring a decision to change jobs or create a little side hustle. You might also buy something for yourself that pleases you. If spending, please be aware of the restrictions of the moon alert. (See above.)

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

The moon is in your sign dancing with lucky Jupiter, which encourages a pleasant sense of well-being. This is why it’s easy for you to feel warm and friendly to the people around you. You’re also willing to offer support — emotional or physical — to anyone who needs it.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You might feel contented more than usual, which is pleasant and reassuring. One aspect of this reassurance is you see physical, financial and emotional support is forthcoming, which is a comfort. Discussions with younger, creative people will interest you.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Friendships mean a lot to you and you can have a wonderful interaction with a friend or a group. You might even be involved with members of the general public. This is a good day to share your hopes and dreams for the future with someone as this will be mutually beneficial.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

You make an excellent impression on everyone. In fact, people see you as successful, even affluent (even if you don’t think so). Work-related travel might arise. Certainly, relations with co-workers and health-related issues will be reassuring and uplifting.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor Dominic West (1969) shares your birthday. You’re orderly, organized, resolute and independent. You’re also intelligent, sociable and connected to those close to you. This year you will reap the rewards for all your hard work. Expect power and leadership roles. It’s a time of major decisions. Promotions, awards, kudos and acknowledgment will be yours.

MPI leadership not fooling anyone by forcing PUB’s hand

It is not a question you will hear raised at Public Utilities Board hearings into Autopac rates, but you can bet it’s the one on most people’s minds.

When will the NDP government step in and repair leadership at Manitoba Public Insurance? For the third year in a row, MPI has limped into PUB hearings like a badly damaged vehicle that should have been written off years ago.

This week, the Crown corporation’s chief actuary admitted the 2.38-per-cent increase requested for the 2027-28 fiscal year was too low, in part because of the impact of last summer’s multiple hailstorms and the premiums MPI pays for re-insurance that protects the public insurer from surges in claims costs.

Chief actuary Cara Low said the rate application was not updated because of “uncertainty.” That is sort of like a firefighter complaining about not being able to do the job because there was too much smoke and flame.

Time to intervene on hubby and therapy ‘buddy’

Maureen Scurfield 4 minute read Yesterday at 2:00 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: My husband has been going to a therapy group to work through some trauma in his past. He seems almost high when he comes home — always in too good a mood and plays his guitar for hours. He won’t come to bed with me either and doesn’t want to make love those nights.

I just found out from a female friend who also goes to this therapy group that one of my man’s exes turns out to be in this same group. She’s seen them at the café where some group members go after meetings for coffee. They usually sit as a group, she says, but my husband and this woman have started breaking off from the main crew for private talks at another table.

When I asked my man about her, he was indignant. He said, “I come home to you, don’t I? Isn’t that enough?” Now he claims he’s helping his ex talk through her trauma. That may be so, but he seems way too happy and smug when he finally comes home.

This ex was the first girl he ever had sex with. I know exactly what she meant to him — until she dropped him on his head. So what can I do? I can’t just ignore it and let it go. He’s my husband till death do us part, right?

New bill looks to keep Hydro rates in check

Free Press staff 2 minute read Updated: 4:00 PM CDT

The province introduced a bill Thursday it says will help keep Manitoba Hydro rates affordable and improve transparency in the province’s financial reporting.

The NDP government introduced the Budget Implementation and Tax Statutes Amendment Act Thursday.

It will ensure revenue from a new levy on cryptocurrency operations and large AI data centres is returned to Manitoba Hydro residential customers, the province said.

The province expects the bill would save all residential ratepayers roughly $50 per year, and said Hydro bills will be lowered monthly beginning early in the new year.
