Why give your mom another Mother’s Day card that’s likely to end up buried in a drawer when you can give her a greeting that she can bury in the dirt — and end up with a bed of wildflowers?

Botanical Paperworks cards are not only "tree-free" (made of post-consumer waste), they’re embedded with North American wildflower seeds, including poppy, snapdragon and bird’s eye, among others. When they’re planted in a pot of soil or small patch of garden, the seeds will germinate and colourful flowers will grow out of the paper.

The Winnipeg company, owned and operated by mother-daughter team Mary Reimer and Heidi Reimer-Epp, was recently featured in a Wall Street Journal article about eco-friendly stationery. Its clients include Starbucks, Sony and TimeWarner,
