A retrospective celebrating the 30-year career of printmaker, ceramic artist and educator Inga Torfadottir opens tonight at Soul Gallery in the Exchange District.

The Reykjavik-born, Winnipeg-based artist has worked in a variety of media since completing her studies at the Icelandic College of Arts and Design and Reykjavik College of Fine Art before immigrating to Winnipeg in 1976 and pursuing a career as a ceramic artist and instructor at the Stoneware Studio. She became a member of the Manitoba Printmakers Association in 2000, and has taught workshops at Martha Street Studio.

This exhibition will feature a selection of linocuts, monoprints and acrylics from throughout her career, including her works inspired by the sagas of Iceland and Scandinavia, which she rediscovered after the death of her father in 2000 sparked a renewed interest in her ancestors.

Tonight’s opening reception will feature an artist introduction at 7 p.m., live music and refreshments. Points on a Curve is on view until July 11.

Boniface and Prairie

on the WAG Rooftop

Today, 7 p.m.

Admission $25

Every seat is in the nosebleeds tonight on the rooftop of WAG-Qaumajuq.

With good reason, the top storey of the downtown gallery has recently become one of the most memorable places to take in live music on a summer night in Winnipeg, with eclectic artists performing under the cover of moody Prairie skies.

Boniface performs on the WAG rooftop tonight.

Tonight, the rooftop series draws Boniface, the expansive pop project of Winnipeg’s Michele Visser, a songwriter with an uncanny knack for seizing the moment. For a sense of Visser’s wide-ranging inventiveness, dive into the self-titled Boniface LP from 2020 or check out her 2023 single ymmfnc and bleed 4 u, a collaboration with Peter Harder.

Opening for Boniface is relative newcomer Prairie, a band that plays music at the comfortable crossroads of slowcore and grunge. Moss Queen is on vocals and guitar, Val Podlesnaia is on bass, Dawson Reynolds is drumming, and Ian Tata is on lead guitar.

On July 18, Winnipeg’s JayWood returns from Montreal to play the rooftop with openers Fencing, an art-rock band well-suited to play atop the province’s largest gallery.
