Hey there, time traveller!

MOULIN Rouge — The Ballet has high-kicked past the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s previous record to become the biggest-grossing show in the company’s 70-year history.
The new ballet, choreographed by Winnipeg’s Jorden Morris, brought in more than $692,000 at the box office (including subscriber tickets) for its Oct. 21-25 run. That surpassed the previous RWB record held by the première run of Peter Pan in 2006.
“It’s exhilarating to have this Manitoba-made new production resonate with our audience,” Jeff Herd, chief operating officer, said in a news release.
Five performances of Moulin Rouge were originally scheduled, but demand was so great that the company added two shows. Six of the seven performances sold out, meaning that the ballet played to 91 per cent capacity overall at the Centennial Concert Hall.
Total Winnipeg attendance was just under 13,700.
In terms of single tickets, the love story set in and around the famous French cabaret was RWB’s bestselling non-Christmas production since 1993.
The company is touring Moulin Rouge to Brandon, Regina, Saskatoon, Kelowna and Vancouver in November, and to Victoria, Edmonton, Medicine Hat, Calgary and Ottawa in the new year.
