It appears Winnipeg music fans could be drinking beers and seeing bands at the Royal Albert Arms again in September.

The historic Exchange District music venue and hotel has been closed since May 2011 when a water-line break flooded the basement. City crews helped control the leak, but left responsibility for repairs to the hotel because the break was located on private property.

Owner Daren Jorgenson disputed the account, claiming the city broke a valve on an abandoned pipe, and the property has remained closed since.

But yesterday, a late-afternoon post on the Albert’s Facebook page offered some hope that the venue will open this fall. “Update: We will start booking shows again starting August 1, 2012 for dates September 7th and onward,” the statement read, followed by, a “no media comment,” post.

Jorgenson declined to comment on the reopening earlier this month, stating via email “there has been too much press coverage of the Royal Albert.”

Cross-border abduction under investigation

A cross-border kidnapping from Winnipeg to Minnesota is under investigation, according to North Dakota state patrol.

A 31-year-old Manitoba man abducted a 37-year-old Manitoba man in Winnipeg and drove across the border into North Dakota, the North Dakota State Highway Patrol said in a Facebook post Sunday. The state patrol said it became aware of the possible abduction Sunday morning and worked with local, federal and Canadian law enforcement to investigate.

Authorities identified a suspect vehicle using cameras at multiple locations and used cell-phone location information and licence-plate reader technology to find the vehicle in Alexandria, Minnesota.

"The victim was able to break free from the suspect and run into a nearby store. The suspect was taken into custody shortly afterward by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Alexandria Police Department. The victim was recovered safely," the North Dakota state patrol's post reads.

Police are asking for the public’s help locating a 34-year-old woman last heard from almost a week ago.

Tamara Stevens, who also goes by Tammy, was last heard from on Sunday last weekend and was reported missing Tuesday morning, said a Thompson RCMP news release Saturday.

RCMP and family are worried for her well-being.

Stevens is believed to be in Thompson and is described as 5'7, with a slender build and long red hair, said RCMP. She also has a piercing on her lip and was last seen wearing black T-Shirt featuring the Twilight character Jacob, pants and work boots.
