IT’S official. The 26th annual Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival set another indoor attendance record, it was announced Monday.

Total ticketed attendance was 101,488, up from 100,621 in 2012 when there were 53 more performances. Daily attendance records were smashed on seven of the 12 days of the alternative theatre festival. Both Saturdays broke the 10,000-ticket mark for the first time.

There were 197 sellouts among the 1,410 performances, another fest best, as was the $705,553.75 in box office revenue that was returned to the 169 companies.

“The fact that we were able to not only maintain, but surpass the record we set at last year’s 25th anniversary fringe shows that Manitobans have a real passion for the festival,” said executive producer Chuck McEwen. “There’s a real appetite for independent theatre in our community that seems to grow every year, and that’s really encouraging for the future of the fringe.”

The first time Fringe Flyer shuttle bus had a ridership of 3,914, or an average of 325 passengers per day.
