Winnipeg Home and Garden Show
Whether you’re planning a big renovation, looking to get your green thumb on this spring or are simply curious about the latest and greatest home-improvement innovations on the market today, chances are you’ve been waiting for this weekend for some time.
The Winnipeg Home and Garden Show starts Thursday, April 4, and runs through Sunday at the RBC Convention Centre (375 York Ave.), offering budding designers, home renovators and gardeners a chance to get inspired about redesigning their living and gardening spaces.
Countertops, contractors, consultations, closets, cleaning products and more — it’s the one time of year home and garden enthusiasts can find it all under one roof.
The show also features a wide range of speakers on all manner of topics that can help you everywhere from the basement to the backyard.
Headlining this year’s Blue Moon Furniture main stage this year will be Kortney and Dave Wilson of the HGTV Canada show Masters of Flip. Also appearing on the main stage will be fellow HGTV-er Carson Arthur, host of Home to Win, as well as experts on seeds, interior design, mattresses, organizing and more.
The Winnipeg Home and Garden Show runs from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets are $11 for adults or $8 for seniors (kids 12 and under are admitted free). To get tickets, and for more information on exhibitors and presenters, visit winnipeghomeandgardenshow.com.

WindSync at the WAG
Houston-based wind quintet WindSync will blow into town Sunday, April 7 for a special show at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, hosted by the Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg.
Now in its ninth season, WindSync — which includes former Winnipeg flutist Garrett Hudson as well as musicians on clarinet, French horn, bassoon and oboe — has toured around the world and played storied venues such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre.
The group also puts a heavy focus on education, spending time reaching out to children, families and underserved audiences through performances in public spaces and hosting educational concerts. Their concerts for young people reach more than 10,000 students per year.
This aligns with the mandate of the Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg — the oldest continuously operating musical organization in Winnipeg — which has been providing a stage for young Canadian musicians since 1894, and scholarships for promising young Manitoba musicians since 1915.
Tickets are $25 ($15 for under 30 and $5 for students), and are available at Eventbrite.ca. The April 6 concert starts at 2 p.m.

MCO and Canzona perform Handel’s Israel in Egypt
The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra takes part in its annual tradition of collaborating with a Winnipeg choral group on Tuesday, April 9 at the Westminster United Church (745 Westminster Ave.).
This year’s event teams up the MCO with Canzona, a 28-voice choir that is celebrating its 30th anniversary season. The two groups will tackle Handel’s Israel in Egypt and will be led by Canzona artistic director Kathleen Allan.
Canzona specializes in Baroque masterworks, resurrecting long forgotten works of the 17th and 18th centuries. Israel in Egypt certainly counts; the epic oratorio was first performed in 1739, but it has long been overshadowed by Handel’s famous masterwork, Hallelujah.
The MCO will add oboes, bassoons, horns, timpani and even a harpsichord to their usual complement of musicians for the concert.
Tickets are $35 for adults, $33 for seniors and $15 for students at themco.ca or by calling 204-783-7377.
