“I love to read, but when I start a book, I can think of nothing else so I try very hard to make curated choices. I just finished Rising Strong by Brené Brown. Her book was especially meaningful for me because I know her personally, and because I had spinal reconstruction surgery in Germany this summer — ‘rising strong’ is my life goal these days. I’m finishing When Elephants Weep: The Emotional Lives of Animals by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson — it’s a powerful book that, as a wildlife painter, leaves me greatly inspired. It’s always the character of an animal that draws me in. I can’t wait to dive into Bear Attacks by Stephen Herero. Winter leaves me obsessing about the polar bears I love so much, and how we can better honour animals for the amazing creatures that they are.”
