Bruni offered to be Mick’s ‘mistress forever’
A new Mick Jagger bio has a story about his time with Carla Bruni, who in 1990 was a smoking-hot young model who met a lot of rock stars.
She and Eric Clapton were an item then, see, but when she met Mick, Eric had a premonition, Christopher Anderson reports in Mick: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger.
Clapton “begged” Jagger to stay away: “Please, Mick. Not this one. I think I’m in love.”
Fat chance. By 1992 she was seeing both Jagger and Donald Trump, who was also with Marla Maples then. Trump says Carla became “a total pain in the ass” about Marla.
Long story short, the day after Mick’s wife Jerry Hall gave birth to Georgia, in January 1992, Mick and Carla checked into a Thai resort together.
Later Hall found a Carla-to-Mick note: “I’ll be your mistress forever.” There was a confrontation … we just haven’t got space for all this, recounted in the Daily Mail.
U2 bass player didn’t even notice missing $3.5M
How rich, you ask, is Adam Clayton, the bass player for U2? Well, rich enough that when his personal assistant embezzled $3.5 million from him, he didn’t even notice.
In Dublin last week, Carol Hawkins was sentenced to seven years in jail on 181 counts of theft over a four-year period before Clayton caught on.
“Nothing, frankly, could explain away the scale of this dishonesty other than … greed in pursuit of a lavish lifestyle,” said Judge Patrick McCartan.
Lavish enough: luxury vacations for her family, a New York condo, limousine services, a car for her son, and a stable of 22 horses, to name a few items.
Clayton is now in legal action against a financial advisor and a private bank; they should have spotted the thefts, he says.
He didn’t bother to go to court for the verdict.
Hawkins is 48. Clayton is 52.
Clooney, Keibler poisoned (with food)
The first evidence that George Clooney has not sold his soul to the devil, after all: It’s true, something kind of bad finally happened to George.
He and Stacy Keibler are on vacation, from where she Tweeted this:
“Finally had a bad meal in Italy. Our whole dinner party got food poisoning. Oh well, at least I’m still in Italy.”
TMZ.com says the problem arose after a meal at a restaurant in Cernobbio; the manager denied that his place was to blame.
George is 51; Stacey is 31.
Nice work if you can get it
Scarlett Johansson has been offered 20 million smackeroos to be the Black Widow again in the (first) Avengers sequel, the N.Y. Post reports.
No kidding. The original movie is at $1.355 billion in revenue and still counting, the third-biggest global box-office film ever.
ScarJo, meanwhile, has been on a yacht, off the coast of Sicily. The N.Y. Daily News ran bikini photos of her stretched out beside a fit-looking guy a little older than she is. He’s not named but is supposedly her bodyguard; she seems to be treating him as more than hired help. She’s 27.
Katie Holmes, fashion designer
For some reason, there’s suddenly a lot of buzz about Holmes & Yang, the fashion line launched in 2009 by Katie Holmes and designer Jeanne Yang.
H&Y has had a “low and lackluster” profile, says the Daily Mail, but is making a breakout: The line — daywear, eveningwear, and handbags — will have its first big-time runway show at New York Fashion Week in early September, WWD reports.
Meanwhile People mag says Katie starts work next week filming Molly, a picture she co-wrote and is co-directing. It’s about a single mother.
Justin time for Biel to get dressed
Jessica Biel tells InStyle mag about the what-to-wear process in the home she shares with fiancé Justin Timberlake:
He’s “fearless in his choices and has a real eye for design … He has better taste than I do.
“When I walk out of the closet after getting dressed in the morning, I’ll go like this (she turns her palm upward in a “whaddya think?” gesture), and he goes like this (she shakes her head “no”). Then he picks … It’s hilarious.”
But the man has the fashion sense in most couples, no?
She’s 30, he’s 31.
On-again, off-again; now they’re engaged
Movie cutie Sofia Vergara and her rich-guy boyfriend Nick Loeb quarreled and split up in May, but then quietly got back together and now they’ve announced their engagement.
He proposed on the Riviera Maya in Mexico, where they’d gone with a big entourage of friends and relatives, including some of her kinfolks from Colombia, to celebrate her 40th birthday.
Do-it-yourself Louboutins
Christian Louboutin shoes, with their trademark red soles, cost maybe $900. But you can buy a little “tester” pot of glossy red paint for a couple of bucks, and women in the U.K. are buying lots of it, reports the Telegraph over there. Cheapo shoes become Louboutins!
A do-it-yourself and housewares chain called Homebase reports booming sales for red paints, but only in the tiny pots.
Ladies: yes, you could do it. But it would be wrong!
Katy Perry ‘not looking’ for love
Katy Perry, still droning on about Russell Brand, tells USA Today there’s not “anything serious” in her reported relationship with Robert Ackroyd of Florence + the Machine.
“There are times I go out and meet people and flirt, but it’s not really appropriate to have anything serious.
“For me, right now, I’m totally not looking. I’m just looking to heal. And I’m on that path. I’m not down on love.”
And this: “My fairy tale has absolutely changed. I don’t need the Prince Charming to have my own happy ending. I can make the happy ending myself.”
