Baby girl for Maroon 5 singer, model

MODEL Behati Prinsloo and singer/songwriter Adam Levine have become parents, Us Weekly reported. They named their daughter Dusty Rose Levine.

Details are scarce. Us reported the baby was born “in the L.A. area” and a home birth had been planned.

Wherever Behati was when the population increased, “everything went well,” an anonymous source told the magazine.

“They’re a very happy couple,” the source said.

“I can tell you they make very beautiful babies together.”

Prinsloo is 27. Levine is 37.

DiCaprio’s beach digs for sale

GOT US$10.95 million to spare?

Then you could be the new owner of superstar actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s beach house in Malibu, Calif.

We don’t know exactly why he’s selling — not enough models nearby, maybe.

Forbes magazine has details about the hot tub and two-car garage, and the fact he bought the joint, back in 1998, for a mere US$1.6 million.

Brown concerts cancelled

CHRIS Brown had booked a couple of gigs in Japan this week, but it turns out that country refuses entry to any foreigner with a criminal record or an open criminal case.

Brown has both — a rap sheet from his 2009 beating of Rihanna and pending charges over last month’s standoff with police at his Los Angeles home. So Japanese fans are out of luck, TMZ.com reported.

Brown, 27, denies any wrongdoing in last month’s case and is selling a T-shirt about the woman involved, one Baylee Curran, with the legend “THIS B!TCH LYIN.”

Last year, Brown had to scrap an Australian tour after being warned he couldn’t get a visa there.

Fox joins with Frederick’s

STRUGGLING lingerie company Frederick’s of Hollywood has a new part owner in Megan Fox, who’s been recurrently underdressed in those Transformers movies.

She’s now a part owner of Frederick’s and will be a “brand ambassador.” (That sounds so much better than “paid shill,” doesn’t it?) We don’t know the terms of the deal.

Frederick’s is moving into activewear, which is much more wholesome, and perhaps profitable, than the company’s racier underwear.

Now there will be a “mom-friendly” line (”sexy comfort”) supposedly designed by Fox, and even men’s underwear, to be called Fred.

Fox, who is married to former Beverly Hills, 90210 actor Brian Austin Green, has three kids. She’s 30.

Radcliffe relishes a role on GoT

DANIEL Radcliffe aspires to a role in a certain TV series.

The former Harry Potter star currently doesn’t want any long-term commitments to a movie franchise or a TV series, he tells the website Digital Spy. But a guest appearance on Game of Thrones would suit him fine.

“If they want to just bring me in and (bad word) kill me, I would be so happy to do that,” he said.

The actor, 27, is out publicizing two upcoming movies, Imperium and Swiss Army Man.

Gibson’s going to be a father again

MEL Gibson is expecting a ninth child.

Rosalind Ross, an equestrian gymnast less than half his age, is due early next year, the New York Post reported.

Gibson had seven kids with Robyn Moore and one with Oskana Grigorieva. This will be Ross’s first child.

This is turning into a good year for Gibson. Hacksaw Ridge, this new Second World War drama he directed, got a standing ovation and positive reviews at Cannes. And he’s planning a sequel to his 2004 smash The Passion of the Christ. (A sequel, you ask? Well, yes. Something about a resurrection.)

Gibson is 60. Ross is 26.

Bieber, Richie say bye-bye

JUSTIN Bieber and model Sofia Richie — the youngest child of Lionel Richie — are over already, TMZ.com reports.

While they were an item, the Canadian pop star took Richie on a trip to Japan and also to Cabo San Lucas for her 18th birthday.

This is rather like his summer fling in Hawaii with bikini model Sahara Ray. Must be exhausting, all that travel.

Bieber travels for work, too. He performed in Munich the other night, then went to Paris, where he spent part of his off day touring Père Lachaise cemetery.

Other options are closer

Every Winnipeg driver learns this lesson eventually: keep your eyes on the horizon too long and the pothole gets you. Manitoba’s energy debate has the same problem. We keep looking far down the road for the next big project and missing what’s close at hand.

Scott Forbes (Time for 21st-century leadership at MB Hydro, Think Tank, Sept. 24) makes a strong case for more wind and storage. But much of this debate is still measured in thousands of megawatts, generated far from where the power is used.

The more immediate opportunity is close to home.

Wab Kinew as ‘communicator in chief’

Wab Kinew as ‘communicator in chief’

Paul G. Thomas 6 minute read 2:00 AM CDT

Premier Wab Kinew and his party have been riding high in the polls longer than normal for a government one year or less away from its first re-election contest. One reason is his ubiquitous, dominating communications presence as NDP leader and premier.

The argument here is that Kinew has supplemented his prerogatives as premier and party leader (such as appointing cabinet ministers and approving party nominations) with the skilful use of communications to advance his policy agenda, boost his personal popularity and maintain the competitive advantage of his party over the opposition Progressive Conservatives.

Communications has always been a significant part of politics and policy making. However, in the contemporary political and media environments, communications considerations have moved from the background to the foreground of decision-making by political parties, including when they are performing in the role of government. Campaigning and governing now overlap in what has been described as a permanent election campaign.

Political parties use communications strategies for several purposes: to establish an image of the leader which makes a positive emotional connection with voters; to promote a coherent message and to keep party members on message; and to gain favourable media coverage for its policies and other actions on almost a daily basis.

Bombers let another one slip away and face pivotal issue

Mike O’Shea summed it up best.

“That one doesn’t feel very good.”

Nor should it.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers started out hot Friday night, only to run out of gas down the stretch and allow the visiting Toronto Argonauts to steal a 30-28 victory.

Is another goalie on Jets’ wish list?

Ken Wiebe 7 minute read Yesterday at 6:59 PM CDT

Kevin Cheveldayoff and company are down to the short strokes.

With the opening-day roster due on Monday afternoon, the Winnipeg Jets took steps on the weekend to get down to the final number.

As it stood on Sunday, the Jets were down to 24 healthy players in training camp after centre Danny Zhilkin and defenceman Henry Thrun were placed on waivers.

With a maximum of 23 spots available, the only things left to determine are whether the Jets are interested in claiming a more experienced goalie to serve as the backup to Stuart Skinner and if centre Brayden Yager will break camp with the big club.

Saviour of the slopes

It’s not yet winter but that hasn’t stopped Lori Natuik from preparing for when snow hits the ground.

Winter is her favourite season and she’s ready to strap on her skis, not only for pleasure but also as part of her duties as a Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP) volunteer.

Natuik, 69, is one of more than 4,500 CSP volunteers across the country.

CSP volunteers are often the first responders when skiiers get into difficulty on the slopes. The non-profit organization was established in 1941 to provide advanced first aid services for more than 200 alpine and Nordic ski areas nationally. In the off-season volunteers provide services at non-skiing events such as marathons, bike races, fundraising events, sporting tournaments and concerts.

Four Jets clear waivers to join Moose

Ken Wiebe 3 minute read Saturday, Sep. 26, 2026

The Winnipeg Jets organizational depth has yet to take a hit on the waiver wire.

On Saturday afternoon, all four players exposed to waivers — defenceman Isaak Phillips and forwards Nikita Chibrikov, Noah Gregor and Parker Ford — cleared, which means they can be assigned to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.

Owing to injuries to captain Adam Lowry and winger Cole Perfetti, both Chibrikov and Ford started last season on the NHL roster but spent the bulk of last season with the Moose.

Chibrikov, chosen in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft, has dealt with multiple lower-body injuries during the prior two seasons and is still working his way back to peak form.
