“The Acolyte” star Manny Jacinto and Cineplex CEO Ellis Jacob are among those slated to receive special honours at this year’s Canadian Screen Awards.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television says the Filipino-Canadian actor, who recently starred in Disney Plus’ Star Wars spinoff series, will be presented with the Radius Award, for artists making “a resounding global impact.”
Jacob and Quebec film producer Denise Robert are getting the Academy Board of Directors’ Tribute Award, for Canadians who have helped grow the media industry.
Meanwhile, “The Porter” co-creator Marsha Greene will receive the Changemaker Award, for those using their voice or platform to “call out systemic racism and discrimination.”
And CBC’s comedy “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” will get the Sustainable Production Award, with the academy noting the series has “fostered company-wide participation in green practices,” resulting in a carbon footprint that’s significantly less than the industry average for a half-hour comedy.
The Canadian Screen Awards will take place in Toronto from May 30 to June 1.
