When it comes to soulful soft rock, it doesn’t get much softer than Michael Bolton, so it’s a safe bet earplugs won’t be required when the multiple Grammy winner performs at Club Regent on April 5.

The adult-contemporary star is touring in support of his new album, One World One Love. Tickets for the show go on sale Feb. 11 for $75 and $90 at Ticketmaster.

For even more soul, The Stars of the Commitments will appear at McPhillips Street Station March 17. The band features two members from the 1991 Alan Parker film The Commitments: drummer Dick Massey and bassist Kenneth McCluskey. Tickets go on sale Feb. 4 for $35 and $40 at Ticketmaster.

The casinos have also booked country group Sawyer Brown March 18 at Club Regent (tickets on sale Feb. 4, $45 and $55); country artists Gord Bamford, Patricia Conroy and Duane Steele April 8 at Club Regent (tickets on sale Feb. 11, $30); vocal group Little Anthony & the Imperials April 12 at Club Regent (tickets on sale Feb. 12, $35 and $45); and comedian Brett Butt for two shows April 18 at McPhillips Street (tickets on sale Feb. 12, $35 and $45).

Estate of woman who died from local anesthetic injected into blood vessel sues Morden dentist, his business, clinic

The estate of a 23-year-old woman who died after receiving a local anesthetic during a wisdom tooth extraction at a Morden dental clinic has filed a lawsuit over her death.

Virginia Blatz never returned home after she went to Boundary Trails Dental Centre to have her wisdom teeth removed on Nov. 27, 2024. An autopsy later confirmed she died from local anesthetic systemic toxicity caused by an inadvertent injection into a blood vessel, her family has previously said.

Her father, Dulaney Blatz, filed a lawsuit in the Court of King’s Bench on behalf of her estate late last month, naming Ronald David Janz — the dentist who performed the procedure — his dental corporation and the dental corporation that operates the clinic as defendants.

None of the defendants have filed statements of defence in response to the claim, which has not yet been heard in court.

‘Amazing honour’: Winnipeg distribution centre continues award-winning ways for McKesson Canada

After a three-year absence, the trophy is back in Winnipeg.

Last week, McKesson Canada named its 120,000-square-foot pharmaceutical distribution centre in the northwest part of the Manitoba capital its Distribution Centre of the Year. The award recognizes the facility’s role in helping essential medications reach communities across the province and some of Canada’s remote regions.

This is the fourth time the Winnipeg facility has earned the company-wide award since it opened five years ago. McKesson previously honoured the centre in 2021, 2022 and 2023. The recognition comes with a trophy, as well as a banner that was hung from the rafters on Thursday.

More than 100 employees work across the centre’s day-and-night operations, processing between 80,000 and 100,000 medication units daily. Last year, the centre distributed more than 21 million medication units while maintaining more than 99 per cent accuracy.

Mayoral candidates Klein, Vogiatzakis continue to snipe over inducement allegations

Winnipeg mayoral candidate Mike Vogiatzakis told reporters Monday he will contact the city clerk to report his allegation that rival Kevin Klein offered him a job to drop out of the race.

Vogiatzakis and Klein both doubled down a day after accusing each other of offering the other a position at city hall, if they were victorious in the Oct. 28 election, in exchange for a withdrawal.

“Do I want to get him charged? Not really. I don’t want to destroy anybody’s life,” Vogiatzakis told reporters.

“Kevin’s a good guy. I thought he was a friend of mine, but he’s not. Kevin uses leverage to get ahead, and he tried to use me as leverage.”

A Selkirk woman was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison last week for nearly $500,000 in tax fraud, the Canada Revenue Agency says

Michele Gabrielle pleaded guilty to one count of fraud over $5,000 in provincial court in Selkirk on Friday, the CRA says.

The tax agency had uncovered a scheme in which Gabrielle fraudulently claimed Manitoba tax credits from 2016 and 2019. She also filed and amended returns for two family members and a romantic partner, using their names to commit further fraud.

She made false claims in 22 of her own returns and 33 returns file or amended on behalf of others, the CRA says.

Mayoral hopefuls trade accusations

Two mayoral hopefuls traded accusations about meddling in each other’s campaigns as the incumbent rallied supporters for his re-election bid on the eve of advanced polls opening across Winnipeg.

A social media post made by Mike Vogiatzakis, one of 12 nominees in the Oct. 28 race for the top job at city hall, caught the attention of rivals Sunday.

The funeral director took to Facebook midday to criticize Kevin Klein — a competitor he said he thought of “as a friend” until the former Tory cabinet minister made a U-turn after pledging to back the Vogiatzakis campaign.

“Good speaker? Yes. Good looking guy? Sure. Someone I trust now? Absolutely not,” he wrote in a lengthy post.
