Harry Connick Jr. has a song for Ana Grace.
The popular American crooner has penned Love Wins to both honour the memory of, and raise funds for, the former Winnipeg family whose daughter, Ana Grace, was one of 26 who died in the mass shooting last December at Newtown, Conn.
Ana Grace was the six-year-old daughter of Jimmy Greene and Ana Marquez-Greene, who had lived in Winnipeg before recently moving to the U.S. Greene was a professional jazz musician and long-time friend of Connick Jr.
“It’s an all-star cast, featuring Kim Burrell, Doobie Powell, Nikki Ross, Jonathan Dubose Jr. and, of course, Jimmy Greene on tenor saxophone,” Connick Jr. posted on his Facebook page.
The song will be available for downloads on iTunes on June 11 with “100 per cent” of the proceeds going to a fund for Ana Grace “to help Jimmy and his family get through this difficult time,” Connick wrote, adding, “Jimmy, his incredible wife, Nelba, and beautiful young son, Isaiah, are devastated beyond description.”
“I hope that everyone will be able to download the song… Ana grace used to say ‘Love Wins’ – and you know what? it always does!”
Connick announced the release on the eve of dropping his new album, Every Man Should Know, on Tuesday.
