Last week Blue Rodeo entertained thousands of their faithful Winnipeg fans at the MTS Centre, now the Canadian roots-rock legends are providing another musical gift to their fans — this time via the Internet. Specifically, the Free Press website.

A new film, directed by Juno Award winner Christopher Mills, mashes up two Blue Rodeo songs, Mattawa and New Morning Sun, from their latest album In Our Nature.

“When asked to do a video mashup of two Blue Rodeo songs, (Mills) came back with an 18-minute opus — part narrative, part abstract and all beautiful to look at,” Blue Rodeo frontman Jim Cuddy said in a release.

One person was killed and a second was injured in a crash involving an SUV and semi-truck just outside Sanford on Tuesday morning.

RCMP said the semi-truck was eastbound on Highway 3 when it collided with the SUV, which was being driven south on Provincial Road 334 by a 62-year-old Sanford man, who died at the scene.

The collision happened shortly after 5 a.m.

Police said the semi-truck’s driver, a 58-year-old Morden man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The NHL announced on Thursday morning that the 1.0 (1979 to 1996) and 2.0 (2011 to present) eras will now be merged, plus they will include the seasons spent as the Atlanta Thrashers (1999-2011).

The history of the now inactive Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes (1996 to 2024) will remain a separate entity.

Manitoba’s police watchdog recommends no charges against officers after a man suffered facial fractures after an incident with police.

Winnipeg Police Service officers were sent to the intersection of Broadway and Furby Street at about 5:15 a.m. on Sept. 20, 2025, after a report of a disoriented, naked man running in and out of traffic and attempting to enter vehicles.

Officers called paramedics, who medically cleared the man, police previously stated. Officers drove him home, but the man suddenly ran off as they approached his apartment door.

After a short foot chase, officers caught up with him and tried to escort him back to a police vehicle.
