YouTube has made it official: Faouzia is an Artist on the Rise.
The U.S.-based video-sharing platform’s launched a Canadian version of its Artist on the Rise program and named the Manitoba pop singer-songwriter as its honouree.
The accolade comes just a month after Faouzia released her new single, Minefields, which features Grammy Award-winning sensation John Legend.
Faouzia, 20, has 1.22 million subscribers to her YouTube channel — to compare, 6.52 million YouTubers subscribe to Legend’s channel — and the lyric video of Minefields has earned 1.9 million views since the song came out Nov. 5.
View count, watch time, and growth are among the factors that lead to the decision, a YouTube news release says.
Artist on the Rise began in 2018, and it launched, coincidentally, with another Canadian pop singer, Toronto’s Jessie Reyez. Other artists who have been recogized by YouTube include Grammy Award-nominated R&B singer Ella Mai and U.S hip-hop group Brockhampton.
Faouzia was born in Morocco but moved to Canada with her family and grew up in Carman.
