INDIAN City is proving to be a good place for Vince Fontaine.

The new experimental rock meets traditional music project from the Eagle & Hawk guitarist leads the list of nominees at the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards with seven for best pop CD (Supernation), best group or duo, new artist, album cover, best producer/engineer, single of the year (Supernation) and songwriter of the year. The official release party for Supernation takes place Aug. 23 at the West End Cultural Centre.

As well, Fontaine received a separate producer/engineer nomination for his work on his solo album, Songs for Turtle Island, and the Eagle & Hawk release, Life Is…

The seven nominations for Indian City make up one-quarter of the nominations received by Manitoba artists at this year’s APCMAs.

Fifteen Manitoba artists received a total of 27 nominations in 15 different categories, it was announced during a press conference yesterday.

Other local artists with multiple nods include Tracy Bone who is up for best country CD (Woman of Red), songwriter and female entertainer of the year.

Singer-songwriter Don Amero also received three nominations for best pop CD (The Long Way Home), single of the year (Turn These Grey Skies Blue) and male entertainer of the year. He will face off in the male entertainer category against country singer Jerry Sereda, who is up for two awards, including best country CD for Turn the Country On.

The nominations are the first of two rounds of voting. The public is now invited to log on to aboriginalpeopleschoice.com to see the complete list and vote for their favourites. Winners will be announced at the seventh annual APCMAs on Nov. 1 and 2 during the Manito Ahbee Festival, which runs from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4 in Winnipeg.
