Locally made beer, more wine and new burgers — all are being promised at upcoming Winnipeg Jets games and Canada Life Centre events.
Owner True North announced changes to the downtown arena Monday, including a slew of new alcohol options in time for the 2023-24 hockey season.
Beer from Trans Canada Brewing Company, Kilter Brewing Co. and Little Brown Jug will be stocked in a craft beer corner.
“What a great place to be to expand the reach of local craft beer,” Jennifer Elson, spokeswoman for Trans Canada Brewing Company, wrote in a statement. “We think it’s going to be positive for the local craft beer industry as a whole.”
True North scouted craft beer partners last month. It follows the Winnipeg Goldeyes, who began their own craft beer corner in 2018.
Trans Canada Brewing Company will provide “as much beer as needed” to keep the stations at the north main concourse and outside section 310 stocked, Elson wrote.
Canada Life Centre sells approximately 3,800 to 4,800 hectolitres (one hectolitre equals 100 litres) of beer volume annually, True North’s request for proposals last summer outlined.
New wine is also on the menu: single-serve bottles will be available at hawking and Grab N Go locations, and certain concessions will offer by-the-glass pours. Premium spaces have 20 new wine listings; True North partnered with Andrew Peller Limited on the selection.
YWG Burger is a new concession, touting burgers like the Salisbury House Nip. At Hot or Not Chicken, customers choose between hot and mild chicken fingers and sandwiches. Burrito 204 features burritos, nachos and churros.
The Canada Life Centre has an homage to Gimli — the Crown Royal Whisky Hangar — which will produce Crown Royal cocktails.
True North funnelled $13 million into renovations of the 15,300 seat rink, including extending the north concourse. The corporation didn’t respond to Free Press questions by print deadline.
It will continue selling Labatt drinks.
