The 11th Great Manitoba Food Fight was hosted by Manitoba Agriculture in partnership with Food and Beverage Manitoba and De Luca’s Fine Foods on Sept. 20 at De Luca’s Cooking Studio. The daylong event provides entrepreneurs with the opportunity to showcase their food products and receive valuable feedback and insight from knowledgeable industry judges. Ten food-product innovators and three beverage innovators competed for a trio of food prizes and one for beer and spirits. Little Bones Wings took the gold medal for its chicken wings, Piccola Cucina the silver for hemp macaroons and Mr. Biltong Beef Jerky Co. went home with the bronze. In the beer and spirits category, Capital K Distillery took the prize. Over the years, the Great Manitoba Food Fight has helped more than 160 food entrepreneurs bring their products to market. Morrissette waved them over. The father, who she said could not swim, jumped into the river first and immediately began to sink.

William Ryerson Thomas Comber, now in his mid 20s, was found guilty of second-degree murder by a jury in December 2022 for the killing of Hailey Dugay on Nov. 17, 2018. Comber was later sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years.

Dugay died after the truck she was travelling in was struck by gunfire late at night on a gravel road near Fraserwood, 90 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

The Court of Appeal struck down Comber’s murder conviction earlier this year and ruled he was instead guilty of the lesser offence of manslaughter.
