A good turn for the Good Book

I was the recipient of an amazing act of kindness from an anonymous Winnipeger.

When I arrived at work on Wednesday evening at Studio One School of Performing Arts, a place that I have dance and taught at for the past 26 years, there was a package in my mailbox. I didn’t think much about it, as I had ordered some cheques from the bank for the Studio Costume Committee.

I opened the envelope to find a well-used Bible. I turned the Bible over to find the name of a very dear friend on the front. A slip of paper fell out of the package. The letter was from a woman who worked in a downtown restaurant where this Bible has been in the lost and found for several years. This wonderful lady was no longer working at the restaurant but couldn’t bear to leave the Bible in the lost and found as it seemed to be very well used and likely cherished.

She took it upon herself to locate the owner. The Bible belonged to my friend Heather Belle Guest, who unfortunately passed away more than seven years ago. The lady found Heather’s obituary in the Winnipeg Free Press, which mentioned my name as a close friend of Heather’s. She found that I work at Studio One and sent the Bible to me.

I want to say thank you very much for taking the time to send this back. As Heather has been gone for more than seven years, I assume what happened was that Heather’s brother was using her Bible after her passing and must have lost it at some point. I will ensure that the Bible gets returned to him! Thank you for taking the time to return this item to its family.
