For the second consecutive year, the Free Press’s Kelly Taylor has been honoured by the International Automotive Media Registry for his journalism.
Taylor, an auto reporter and copy editor, took home the gold plus best award in newspaper writing at the 26th annual International Automotive Media Competition for his May 2016 feature Pumped Dry, a deep look at the struggles of small gas stations in Manitoba.
“It was an honour to tell Jeff Kendel’s story of disillusionment with Big Oil and to explore the machinations of an industry apparently lacking any competition,” Taylor said, adding he was honoured to win considering the wealth of high-quality entrants from around the world.
In 2002, Taylor was named Automotive Journalist of the Year, and in 2014, he was runner-up for the same award. In 2015, Taylor’s story Saline solution won a bronze medal at the media competition, and throughout his career, the veteran journalist has earned numerous other awards and accolades for his automotive coverage.
“I am delighted Kelly’s journalism has again been recognized for his ability to serve our general audience,” said Free Press Editor Paul Samyn.
