Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 09/03/2021 (1908 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
Name: Rosie
Sex: Female
Approximate age: five years old
Breed: Made-in-Manitoba medium-sized, mixed-breed mutt a.k.a. Lab/shepherd cross
Size: 25 kilograms
Time in care: Rosie first came into Spirit of Hope Rescue at three months of age in April of 2016. She was adopted and remained in the same home until she was returned to the rescue in December 2020.
Rosie is friendly with people and has lots of energy. She loves going for walks and playing fetch in the yard. She also likes cats, although that involves mostly ignoring them. Rosie loves to snuggle and enjoys belly rubs. Her foster family says that she is very loving and likes to be close to you.
While Rosie loves people, including children, and she’s good with cats, she is reactive with other dogs. She will need a proper introduction to another dog, which can be completed with the assistance of our trainer.
She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, and has been tested for heartworm and Lyme disease. She is house-trained, knows basic commands and is leash-trained. She loves her regular walks but is leash-reactive to other dogs. She will do well in a home with an experienced dog owner who will focus on her training and ensuring that she has adequate mental stimulation (dog puzzles, “leave it” drills, interactive dog toys etc). She is a very intelligent and attentive dog that thrives with boundaries and training.
Her foster describes her as friendly, healthy, active, playful, energetic, happy, gentle, sweet, loving, cuddly, attentive, independent and intelligent.
Rosie’s foster family is working on respectful greetings when meeting new people, ie. not jumping up to excitedly greet them as they walk through the door. And they are working on her leash reactivity to other dogs while on walks.
Adoption applications can be found at spiritofhoperescue.ca. Volunteer adoption counsellors will contact applicants that meet the rescue’s criteria for adoption and complete an in-depth interview. The purpose of the interview is to gather information that is relevant to matching the applicants with a suitable dog for their home and lifestyle. Spirit of Hope also completes reference checks and a virtual, contact-free home check. A meet with an available dog will be set up within the guidelines of the Public Health Orders. All parties must physically distance, wear masks and be symptom-free in order to set up a meet. If it is a match, applicants will fill out the adoption contract and pay the adoption fees before taking their dog home.
Dogs must be in rescue for a minimum two-week quarantine period, have a first set of vaccinations, and be at least eight weeks of age to be adopted.
Adoption fees are $500 for puppies under 10 months of age and small breed adults under 11 kg (25 pounds) or $375 for adult dogs 10 months of age and older. Fees cover three sets of core vaccinations, vet exams, spay or neuter, tattoo and six weeks of pet insurance.
