HALIFAX – A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged after antisemitic graffiti was found on a Halifax synagogue over the weekend.

Halifax police arrested Gezim Topalli at his home in the city on Tuesday.

He was scheduled to appear in provincial court today on charges related to mischief, property damage, and public incitement of hatred.

Police determined that the six messages inscribed on the synagogue amounted to a hate crime.

They released an image taken from security footage at the synagogue showing a man suspected of the crime.

Police say members of the public who saw the photo came forward to help identify Topalli.
