MIAMI (AP) — Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly, sidelined since he tested positive for COVID-19 on July 31, is expected to rejoin the team Friday.

The 60-year-old Mattingly, who was vaccinated in mid-April, experienced mild symptoms. The last-place Marlins began a series at San Diego on Monday, and Mattingly plans to return to the dugout when they start a homestand Friday against the Chicago Cubs.

James Rowson has been the Marlins’ acting manager in Mattingly’s absence.

Mattingly was voted NL manager of the year in 2020 after he guided the Marlins to their first postseason appearance since 2003.

Three years ago Julijette and Volume Global announced a private investment of $30 million aimed at setting up a studio village in phases, which was to create as many as 300 jobs. The province had already committed $40.6 million to infrastructure in and around the town and then, in April, pledged an additional $10 million for road work on the grounds that it would lead to a smoother drive to the studio. The building opened in the spring and was put up for sale on August 16.

It has not been made public why the property is for sale, and it would be unfair to speculate about the finances of a private company from outside. However, there is a reasonable question underlying this situation, and it goes beyond just one building: given all the public money that has been spent, what does Manitoba actually own?

Governments fund AI training for aerospace, manufacturing workers

The federal and provincial governments announced a joint $500,000 for the AeroTrace Workforce Pilot program on Thursday.

Manitoba Aerospace and Defence (formerly Manitoba Aerospace) will deliver the training through the Canada-Manitoba Workforce Tariff Response Program.

Mode40, a Manitoba firm, will assist. The data intelligence company built AeroTrace, which is a traceability and supplier-readiness platform focused on aerospace and defence supply chains.
