MONTREAL – Quebec is reporting a new case of measles in the Montreal area, the first in the province since April.

The case involves a person who visited a pediatric clinic in St-Eustache, Que., an off-island suburb of Montreal, on Nov. 28.

The government says more cases are possible and vaccination is the best protection against the highly contagious illness.

Quebec had an outbreak of measles between December 2024 and April 2025, with 36 cases reported so far this year, not counting the latest case.

The province had a previous outbreak between February and June 2024.

There have been more than 5,200 measles cases across Canada so far this year, mostly concentrated in Ontario and Alberta.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 4, 2025.
