VANCOUVER – The Community Bargaining Association representing more than 26,000 health workers in British Columbia says a tentative deal has been reached with the province after the last agreement expired almost a year ago.
The association says in a news release that the agreement was negotiated under the B.C. government’s enhanced mandate, however it also includes additional pay increases linked to low-wage redress of workers whose wages were cut decades ago.
The BC General Employees’ Union says the agreement was reached with the government’s bargaining agent the Health Employers Association of BC, although details of the deal haven’t been released.
The association, which represents seven unions, 60 per cent of whom are members of the BCGEU, says it will share a summary of the tentative agreement with members in the coming weeks, and will announce a timeline for the ratification vote.
The association’s members work in home support, shelters, supportive housing, clinics, treatment programs and mental-health group homes.
