VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Whitecaps will be without star midfielder Thomas Muller for Saturday’s road game against Los Angeles FC.

Whitecaps coach Jesper Sorensen confirmed Thursday that Muller is dealing with a hamstring injury.

The German veteran suffered the injury late in Vancouver’s 3-1 loss to the Chicago Fire on Tuesday.

Muller entered that game as a substitute at halftime.

Sorensen did not reveal the severity of the injury or how long Muller might be sidelined.

He said the absence of the 37-year-old World Cup champion will test the Whitecaps’ depth and ability to overcome adversity.

“That’s why we have more than just 11 players,” said Sorensen. “And you know what? This is also a situation where things are not just going our way, and that’s also a good challenge. That’s what you have to grow from. You cannot always have it your way and then believe you will get stronger.”

The Whitecaps have won just two of their last six matches as they battle to hold onto first place in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference.
