Science begins anew at the Experimental Lakes Area Monday as researchers return to the site following the ELA’s near death experience.

The International Institute for Sustainable Development says monitoring and experiments will begin again on lakes where the effects of phosphorus has been studied for years as well as lakes where researchers are testing the effects of nanosilvers, antibacterial particles found in many electronic appliances and other consumer and commercial products.

Last month, after the federal government cut funding to the 58 lakes near Kenora, the IISD took over operation of the lakes and hired several new and former researchers to work there.
