A Winnipeg pharmacist has been fined for misconduct after dispensing a mistakenly high dose of an anti-psychotic, harming her patient.

Man, 19, killed in semi, passenger vehicle crash north of Emerson

A 19-year-old is dead after a collision Saturday in southeastern Manitoba involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle.

RCMP officers from the St-Pierre-Jolys detachment received a call at 8 p.m. about a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of highways 23 and 200, located roughly 35 kilometres north of Emerson, a Monday news release said.

A vehicle with five people inside was travelling north on Provincial Road 200 when it hit a semi-truck travelling east on Provincial Trunk Highway 23, police said. The semi-truck jackknifed in the eastbound lane and tipped over into the ditch. The other vehicle landed facing west in a ditch on PTH 23.

A STARS air ambulance was dispatched, police said.

First Crumbl cookie shop opens in Winnipeg

The early birds got their cookies.

Klaudia and Jayson Ballantyne were the first in line for the grand opening of Winnipeg’s first Crumbl location at 1570 Regent Ave. West, arriving at 2 a.m. Friday — six hours before the cookie chain was set to open.

The brother and sister brought their lawn chairs and blankets and hunkered down.

Roughly 90 minutes later, by their count, the next customers arrived.

Connor Hellebuyck breaks silence after trade from Jets

It took until the very end of his introductory news conference Saturday — right around the 15-minute mark — before Connor Hellebuyck was finally asked the question that hockey fans back in Winnipeg were likely waiting for.

“Is there anything you’d like to say to Jets fans?” a reporter who covers Hellebuyck’s new team, the New Jersey Devils, put to him during the session held inside the Prudential Center in Newark.

A short pause followed.

“I mean, there’s a lot. There’s a lot that I need to say,” Hellebuyck began, no doubt raising plenty of eyebrows around here and the hockey world in general.

‘Savage and brutal’ Erickson home invasion nets 17-year sentence

BRANDON — A woman who fought off the man who slashed her throat in a random home invasion in Erickson described the violent assault as the worst day of her life and a nightmare she can’t seem to shake off.

“I feel like a shell of the person I used to be. Not every second of every day, but definitely every day. It comes in waves,” Candace Richardson said as she read from a victim impact statement in a Brandon courtroom on Friday.

Carter Prince, 21, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder for the June 2023 attack, sat in the prisoner’s box as Richardson spoke.

“I’ll be completely fine, laughing, having fun or just relaxing with my family,” she told the court. “Then time goes so slowly, like you’re floating away, but instead of floating, I’m pinned to the ground, being stabbed over and over again. There’s blood everywhere and darkness surrounding me.”

Winnipeggers unhappy with city leadership, but mostly unwilling to do anything about it

This is not an endorsement (not my job) nor is it a prediction (predictions are for suckers) of what will happen Wednesday in Winnipeg’s mayoral race. It is, however, a call to arms for voters.

The latest Free Press-Abacus Data (formerly Probe Research) poll, published this past weekend recorded a noticeable decline in support for the two theoretical front-runners (Scott Gillingham and Kevin Klein, respectively) and an increase from modest to significant for just about everyone else.

Gillingham saw his support from decided voters drop from 55 per cent to 36 per cent. Klein, the former city councillor and MLA, saw support drop from 23 to 19 per cent.

And what of the rest? Business owner Mike Vogiatzakis, who generated most of his headlines in this campaign by engaging in NHL-grade trash-talking with Klein, was up three points to 14 per cent. And Noah Redden, the 27-year-old software developer, saw his support jump by 10 points, from four to 14 per cent.
