The five berth winners into this month’s provincial men’s curling championship in Selkirk have been determined and it is now just a matter of playing the event finals this evening before the 121st MCA Bonspiel draws to a close.
One berth winner — 1994 Manitoba men’s champion Dave Smith – was determined last night and four others — St. Vital’s Darryl Friesen, Springfield’s Braden Zawada, West. St. Paul’s Rob Cosens and Riverton’s Shawn Magnusson – were determined today.
The bonspiel champion, meanwhile, will be determined this evening beginning at 7 p.m. at Granite Curling Club when LaSalle’s Randy Neufeld takes on a Kyle Einarson team that includes provincials veteran Dave Boehmer in the final of the premier Labatt’s event. The two teams are the last undefeated rinks remaining in the bonspiel.
The Free Press major event final will take place at St. Vital and will feature Smith taking on 1995 world champion Kerry Burtnyk.
The Lucerne major event final will take place at West Kildonan and will feature Cosens playing Rorketon’s Murray Woodward.
