Hey there, time traveller!

NEEPAWA — NO. 1 seed Barb Spencer of Fort Rouge Curling Club completed her Day 1 of the 2009 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts with yet another convincing victory this evening.
The 2003 provincial women’s curling champion, following an easy 8-1 win to open the 16-team Scotties this morning at Neepawa’s Yellowhead Arena, followed up with a 9-2 triumph over Bowsman’s Linda Stewart on the 4 p.m. draw.
In other Draw 3 results, Morden’s Chelsea Carey improved to 2-0 with an 8-2 win over Rossmere’s Angela Wickman and Fort Rouge’s Holly Scott kept pace with a 9-6 win over Brandon’s Lisa Blixhavn.
Kim Link of East St. Paul, the No. 5 seed who fell to Blixhavn in the morning, evened her record at 1-1 with an 8-3 victory over Thompson’s Charlene Norquay.
On the second draw, No. 2 seed Kristy Jenion of Fort Rouge held off a tough challenge from Brandon’s Tina Kozak, drawing a piece of the button with her final rock to win 5-4.
Three-time provincial champion Janet Harvey of Assiniboine Memorial crushed Springfield’s Karen Rosser 8-3, Brandon’s Maureen Bonar toppled La Salle’s Chris Scalena 8-4 and Karen Porritt of Fort Rouge edged Terry Ursel of Plumas 7-6.
“We struggled a little bit with the ice,” said Bonar, four times a Manitoba champion.
“It was swinging a bit at the start and then it straightened up on us, so we struggled a little bit with the broom and we just have to be a little sharper…and I think everything will be all right.”
Day 1 of the Scotties concludes with an 8 p.m. draw tonight. There will be two more full days of round-robin play leading up to Saturday’s playoff round involving the top two teams from each pool
The final is slated for Sunday afternoon.
The Manitoba Curling Association also announced this morning that the 2010 Manitoba Scotties will be held in Killarney Jan. 6-10 at the new Shamrock Centre. The event’s being held three weeks earlier because of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
