NEEPAWA — Two-time Manitoba women’s champion Barb Spencer will play Fort Rouge clubmate Kristy Jenion in the page playoff 1 vs 1 game here at the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts this evening.
Spencer advanced to face Jenion with a 9-3 thrashing of Kim Link in the last round-robin draw of the tournament this afternoon.
The victory improved Spencer’s record to 6-1, the same as Morden’s Chelsea Carey. Carey defeated Holly Scott 10-3 Saturday afternoon to improve to 6-1 and eliminate Scott, who fell to 5-2.
Although they finished tied at 6-1, Spencer was awarded first place based on her round-robin victory over Carey. Carey will face Karen Porritt in the 2 vs 2 game this evening.
Earlier Saturday, Jenion defeated Porritt 7-4 in the final round-robin game for those two teams. The win meant Jenion finished the round-robin at 7-0, the only undefeated team in the 16-team field. The loss to Jenion was the first of the week for Porritt, who finished the round-robin at 6-1.
A win tonight will vault Spencer or Jenion straight into Sunday afternoon’s provincial final, while the loser will have to take the longer route through Sunday morning’s semi-final against the winner of the 2 vs 2 game.
Both playoff games are scheduled for 7 p.m. this evening.
