THE Ohio-based rock festival Rock on the Range will have its Canadian debut in Winnipeg this summer, promoters have announced.

The one-day event, headlined by Ontario’s Billy Talent and featuring 15 bands in total, is slated for June 27 at Canad Inns Stadium.

It will mark the first outdoor stadium concert in Winnipeg since Edgefest in 1998, said Scott Brown of True North Sports and Entertainment, which is producing the show locally.

Tickets are $69.50 for field admission and $29.50 to sit in the stands. They go on sale March 28 at Ticketmaster, and fans who buy that day only can get field admission tickets for $10 less.

Also confirmed on the bill are Rise Against, Rancid, Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman and Thornley.

"It’s a big stadium-rock experience for average rock fans in the heart of the country," said Del Williams, the Los Angeles-based executive producer of Rock on the Range, which started three years ago in Columbus, Ohio.

"Winnipeg deserves the attention. It’s a great city."

Rock on the Range takes place over two days in Columbus this year, May 16-17. Headliners are Slipknot, Mötley Crüe, Korn and Alice in Chains.

The last Edgefest at the Winnipeg stadium was in 1998, not 1997 as previously reported.
