Red River College gets help to renovate Union Bank Tower

WINNIPEG--The oldest skyscraper in western Canada will finally get a facelift as Ottawa and Manitoba have agreed to help fund Red River College's renovation of the Union Bank Tower.

WINNIPEG–The oldest skyscraper in western Canada will finally get a facelift as Ottawa and Manitoba have agreed to help fund Red River College’s renovation of the Union Bank Tower.

The 104-year-old structure at the corner of Main Street and William Avenue will be converted into a culinary and hospitality school, restaurant and new student residences with the help of $9.5 million in federal funding and $5 million from Manitoba, politicians announced this morning.

The project, originally announced last year, will cost $27 million in total. Shovels will be in the ground this summer, Red River College officials said.
