WINNIPEG — Embedding reporters in military operations hasn’t been without controversy.
But the Free Press saw no other option but to climb aboard HMCS Winnipeg when National Defence said they had a spot for us on the naval frigate patrolling the waters off of Somalia’s shores.
Free Press City Editor Paul Samyn explains our decision to embed senior writer Dan Lett on HMCS Winnipeg and what we hope to achieve with our coverage plans. Samyn also outlines how our coverage of the ship that shares our city’s name is part of a concerted effort to bring home stories of our men and women in uniform from Afghanistan to the Gulf of Aden.
