While catching his breath after a victorious, sleepless night, Manitoba Moose coach Scott Arniel held out some hope this morning he’ll have a better lineup for the Calder Cup final, which starts here Saturday against Hershey.
They bounced the Houston Aeros from the playoffs at the MTS Centre Monday night by winning 3-1, taking the best-of-seven Western Conference final four games to two.
Arniel, who gave his troops the day off, said he believes that forwards Alexandre Bolduc and Pierre-Cedric Labrie could be players in the final series.
Bolduc missed the last three games against Houston with a lower-body injury. He also missed three games of the first-round series against Toronto after taking a low-bridge check to his knees.
Labrie was injured in the second-round series against Grand Rapids and didn’t play any of the six games against Houston.
“Labrie is now back skating with the team but contact, he’s not ready for that,” Arniel said this morning. “Come Saturday, he won’t be ready to go.
“Bolduc he’s probable for Saturday. He’ll be the one who has to get out on the ice. His injury, lower-body, we’re really trying to rest him but he’s doing a lot more off-ice stuff.
“But it’s not the same as skating. We’ve got to get him up to speed when it comes to his on-ice conditioning.”
Bolduc has been a force for the Moose when he’s played, scoring five goals and nine points in 10 playoff appearances.
Given that the final series schedule has been stretched to the point where there are only two games in the first seven days, it may help the Moose lineup.
“It’ll be a good thing,” Arniel agreed. “I know they have some injuries, are banged up a little, so it should benefit both teams that way.”
Moose director of hockey operations and corporate communications Scott Brown said this morning that tickets to Saturday’s Game 1 are selling quickly, that already 7,500 had sold since the conclusion of Monday’s win over Houston.
